This project needs more public attention.

Yikes, not going to touch that one until they publish a MSDS. It sounds like they use some really nasty solvents.

If you look at the FAQ for the campaign, the second question is about SDS. Their answer is basically (in my words) that they are still futzing with the formula so it is still quite volatile. (Pun intended.) That and they don't want to give too much away (they can't patent it before the formulation is finalized) by publishing the SDS yet. They didn't out right say it, but one would hope that the SDS would be available at final product release.

But, reading between the lines with their description of how the product works, it seems to be kind of similar to how CA glue works. The solvents keep the active ingredient(s) as monomers, and the curing process is a polymerization process.

I assume it is not substantially different from the existing products. You can find the sheets here.

I wouldn't necessarily assume that. But the Methylene Chloride used in their PLA product can kill you if you use it in an unventilated area. It's far from the worst solvent, but it's probably something you want people to get some special training before they use it.

Re: Glooped!

Since I sport a full and bushy beard I don't touch any product that requires a respirator. I wonder about products like this aimed a hobbyists for use in their home.... I guess if I wanted to devote space and money for a certified fume hood like those the chemistry lab at my university that would be Ok. I have yet to see anything less than a full positive pressure hazmat suit that was any good for folks with full beards like mine.

That's a good cover precaution.

Calling your competitors “monkeys”, combined with the typos on their can instructions doesn’t give me confidence.

Sounds a lot like a release of an epoxy compounded paint from a few years back; binders keeping the epoxy and hardener apart until they evaporate or baked out. Add some talc for sand-ability and you get Gloop.
