They told me that filaments arriving without a vacuum seal is very unusual! As some of you may recall, last year I also got three rolls without a silica bag inside. When I reported the first roll without vacuum seal, they said that it is very unusual that I had issues with four filaments.  Now make it five.

Is the broken vacuum seal issue a QC problem or temperature fluctuation problem? They said that it is very difficult for them to prevent this from happening due to temperature differences while being shipped.

Every spool of filament that I've ever ordered has been vacuum-sealed with a pack of silica gel.

Now loose-coil sample packs are different. Those I've received were not vacuum-sealed.

I have to agree. Every role of filament that I have ever received had a bag of silicone with it also.

Coincidentally, just a few minutes ago I opened a box of Amazon Basics dark gray filament that I had ordered for a project mostly to be done on the 'other' printer.

It was vacuum-sealed, but I was surprised that the little bag of silica gel was missing.

It's not brittle or gooey, and it loaded fine into the 'other brand' printer and it appears to be printing normally.

Prusa said that due to the cold weather in their city and the fluctuation of the temperature while it was shipped to North America, this caused "some air to be sucked into the vacuum seal and inflate it a little". They said that the quality team said this has no impact on the printing properties especially because silica was in the bag.

Is this really true?

sounds like BS to me. Straight up!

aslo how come people that have been posting here forever aren't including info like what kinda filament and so on?

It is not a must have to get filament in vacuum sealed bags. In Austria and Germany is a company delivering quality filament - "HERZ" ( https://www.herz-filament.at/de/). Nearly all spools I received were without silika gel and bags described. It is my favorite PETG brand.

However - I can recommend a filament dryer !!!

I have made it a habit to put most spools in my dry box overnight.  I have noticed a noticable improvement in quality.

I 100% agree with that - it makes absolutely sense to do so, but from time to time I am to lazy - then I get a print with poor quality and then I know it is time for the dryer.

From Prusa of course, they have been packaging for years now and suddenly the problem is the weather, more likely faulty QC and a lame excuse to cover it. regardless the filament should be recoverable, NinjaTek does this as a common practice, just dry he filament.

Prusa advertises that their filaments are vacuum sealed. I paid higher prices and high international shipping costs for their filaments expecting that they are vacuum sealed and work out of the box. Broke seal is their QC problem and they should allow me to return it. Instead, after wasting a week to perform many tests with photos and videos to show its failure, an agent continues to ask me to perform more tests to waste my time.
