Prusament rewarding would introduce some issues:

- prusameteres translate to different value in specific regions - 100 prusament in EU is way lower than the same amount in non developed countries

- you still need to pay for the package and customs etc, and sometimes this would menan people would have to rake a lot of points to make it useable

- free points = more people exploiting the system, there would be a lot more new fake accounts to gamify it, so the new accounts would bump only specific account bu creating nrw threads and posts. Additional burden to admins.

In some other forums you got something like reddit karma, that just provides details if your answers are valuable or not - and nothing else.

The last thing the forums needs are gamifiication systems.

I agree completely on the gamification part. Just imagine the damage a farm of AI agents will do to a forum with gamble rewards, once one person discovers that the forum can go south very fast.

RE: Brief update on the forums

There are ways to mitigate this. Example, only allow accounts that have meaningful active participation voting rights. But then I suppose you are right. Still some sort of recognition for people who help would motive them to continue to contribute instead of eventually getting bored and moving on.

That I also agree with. The helpful people on this forum is one of the things that made me buy a Prusa as the first printer, these people are the backbone of this forum and that should in some way be recognized. The trick is to find the balanced form that feels like a reward for those who earned it but can’t be gamified creating noise just to get there.

RE:

Prusa can directly thank people and ask them for the printables.com profile to give them points, no need to create automated system for it.

The more you automate it so that it does not need human interaction, the more incentive is to exploit the rewarding system by another automation.

Just look at what happens on the other parts of the internet, Cloudflare already reports that more than half of the internet traffic they process is done by bots.

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

I am very happy this get's form and thanks a lot for all the work you put into it!

Hello all.

To try and keep users updated here, as mentioned before there has been work towards updating the forums on the back end of things and I figured to give you an update.

The work continues on it as far as working with different internal teams, seeing what can work and what can not, what stays and what might need to be retired. One thing to keep in mind that this forum is fairly on the large size when you consider the forums offer 6 different languages and sections in the forums going all the way back to the MK1 series of printers and a few other topics.

We have had multiple meetings and sit downs as far as what can be done, what to use, and submitted various feedback that the community has provided previously.

I dont want to say which software will be used just in case I say we are going to use platform A, and then something might arise and we have to change it to a different platform and then just confuse myself along with the community 🙂

This is a high priority internally, and while I hate giving this answer as it would drive myself crazy, as far as when the changes go into effect, the only answer is "soon". Why? Because there are multiple things that have to fall into place and play nice with one another. The forum will play a major part in that for the backbone of a few different related projects, so it has to be done in a way to make sure everything works together well enough.

I know there is little new info here, but I wanted to write and let the users know that the forum update program is still active, still being worked on and has not been forgotten 🙂

RE: Brief update on the forums

Yeah a daily update would be better, of notifications by phone app.
But you can actually turn the notifications off of a thread right?

You can, but the second you post in that thread you're re-subscribed, and the stupid flow of unwanted email notifications starts all over again.

It's basic QOL omissions like this that make the forum an absolute pain to use sometimes, it's really not surprising that the user base is so tiny.

RE: Brief update on the forums

Well I think it has nothing to do with the notifications, as with inbox rules/filters you can easily put them in seperate folders. I think the mobile experience is one. Reddit/discord take a lot of the user base. AI is taking a lot.
The classic forums are just a bit out of popularity. Young generations don't like to type, put trouble and energy into things like forums. But we should really stimulate people to do it because it is the best database you can generate imho for solving problems and improving the user base but also the hardware.

But I think with good software it should be much better. Hope it will happen soon.

100% this. Ive said it before, these forums are a goldmine. Many users on here are extremely knowledgeable and truly passionate about the hobby.

I believe that was in response to people on Printables uploading frivolous models or contest entries that are engineered to game the system.

I would think from Prusa's point-of-view throwing us some swag for helping others is cheaper than staffing a full-time support person. And a lot harder to "farm".

ok, I'm up for the idea of it, I just have to run it up the food chain for approval.

BUT, to make it fair, how would the community "judge" who / what is helpful? and how are posts that are missed by staff (because unfortunately I can't monitor the forum 24/7).  Do we go by upvotes? Community recommended helpful posts? how often is it ran (do you go for most helpful post of the week? most helpful user of the month?)

But for the gamifying bit, I offered to run a "print of the month" or other type of contests in here, and thats when the gamify comment was brought up. I'm all up for discussions at large to improve the community here.

There are over 83,000 members in this forum not sure how many are active.

My estimate is something around 20-30 people who are active. And by active I mean not the people who login, post and then disappear until the next problem.

Hmmm... You gave me an interesting project. These forums are completely open (you don't need an active login to view stuff). And the forums are busiest during my morning and late evening (I'm on West Coast time). Maybe this afternoon I'll point Claude at well, everything... and create a report on active users. I just need to be clear on what "active" means.

There are a lot more people who visit the forums to search for things, find it and then go away (according to google analytics)
over the past 30 days;  308K
Active users in the last 30 minutes, (time of looking this up, 113)

So the main thing is to get the forum updated, improve the user experiences, and then work on trying to be more open / welcoming / engaging (don't take it personally, just spit

Prusament rewarding would introduce some issues:

all good points to keep in mind, any other suggestions / compromises ?

balling ideas.) to new users to be more active in here than being a one stop shop to get some answers.

Ok, so what's the general consensus, to reverse it so the default is off and users have to manually check it for email updates? (also... just imagine my inbox 🙂 )

Hi mate, in an ideal world I’d just like the option to disable email comms for this, I understand that others might like the feature so I don’t expect the default to be suited to my specific needs.

For me the notifications are fine, I just mass delete them once a week.

Thats great but you really shouldnt have to mate.
I'm a user of dozens of forums, and this is literally the only one without the option to opt out of the relentless email spam.

Agree but it's been like that here for a long time and won't change over-night. Meantime, just filter everything to trash.
