“Basic” Buddy Camera Question

Having never used a camera before, I decided to purchase the newly announced Buddy Camera for my XL. I’m starting to run longer multi hour prints, and this will be nice to have.

As I’m waiting for it to arrive, it is my understanding that this is not something that connects directly to my XL. I will need to connect the camera to either a nearby computer, or a Raspberry Pi running Prusa Connect? Is this correct? Thanks.

Reading through the description, my interpretation is the only physical connection will be to a usb power supply and the connection to Connect will be via wifi

Ok, that makes sense now, thanks! I hope that’s the case. That would make it super easy.

Howdy!

Just bought it and installed it.

Indeed, it just connects to power via USB C to USB A cable (provided). You have to configure "New Wifi Cam" and show the QR code you create with your Wifi info to the camera to set it up. Once it connects to the Wifi, it automatically appears in your camera section in Prusa Connect.

WORD OF WARNING: DO NOT USE DARK MODE when creating the QR Code!!!! I almost went crazy trying to pair the camera until I changed to make the QR code in light mode. Then, it connected flawlessly 🙂

Here a sample of the camera working with IR (night mode)

hm looks like it has focus set to about 30cm? Can you adjust it somehow to make a sharp picture to the elements closer to the camera?

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.
