Bambu Log Files

If you own a Bambu printer or thinking about buying one you should probably watch these videos.

RE: Bambu Log Files

It's a bit disappointing that the guy doesn't seem to know what syslog is, but apart from that... Really interesting.

hm if you can access device like that (over ssh or whatever) then it should be just a matter of time if someone decrypts those encrypted files, because keys must be on the device as file or as TPM (which are known to have its own issues leaking keys for example over SPI 😉 ) .

As if to say that this method of getting into the printer, has already been patched in the next version of the software, shortly after the alternative firmware was released, and there is no longer this possibility for users with the newer software, they also blocked, I think, the possibility of downgrade that allowed the printer to be reflashed....

The horrible thing is, what bambu lab gets with this log files. Never going to use such a printer. This information needs to be shared over all social media platforms. Shocking!

RE:

Well, if you use PrusaConnect then they can get similar data as well, but you must explicitly configure Prusa connect.

Yes, but with prusa connect there are two major differences:

@connect you can have a look at the source code an know whats in sich log files. You do not need to decrypt them to get known what data is going to be stored.

@connect you can complete dissable it. With Prusa Link you still have some software to manage the printer in you LAN, without having it connected to a cloud.

Pro tip, you can disable any network device from calling the cloud if you disconnect it from the internet or put in air gapped network or just kill it's connections on the firewall 😉

In one video they say the custom firmware on Bambu Lab allows to switch it to LAN mode by filtering packets on kernel level. Not entirely sure what they do here but personally I would prefer to restrict the device from the outside ( router) and not on the device itself.

RE: Bambu Log Files

If you do not allow the bambu labs printer connect to the public network aka internet, you loose a couple of features, except from the X1E.
