Another US Customs Hassle

I know this is about US Customs and not Prusa, per se, but maybe if someone runs into this problem such as I did they will know what to do.So I ordered a MK3S+, 8kg of various filament and a shirt. Once it shipped (via FedEx) it arrived in Memphis and was "Delayed" by customs. Stating they needed a "Commercial Invoice" well after over 8 days of holding it they finally called me and said I needed to fill out a "Toxic Substance Control Act" form for the filament and shirt.

So I called the TSCA hotline and stated it was ok (aka Positive Certification) because the filament is already sold by a retailer in the US (amazon). They also wanted to know material of the shirt and what gender the shirt was for. Hopefully if anyone gets delayed by US Customs and are asked they can find this post and not have to hunt down the info.

Supposedly I'll get my Prusa tomorrow (after over 5 total weeks).

What a pita! Smart on your part to point to a USA retailer.

Glad it seems you got it sorted so easily. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your new printer!

Cheers!

RE:

I made pretty much the same purchase a couple months ago. And I had almost the same experience.

Prusa shipped the printer with one spool of filament in one box, and all the rest of the stuff (5kg filament, misc nozzels, etc.) in a second box. The printer arrived in less than a week. But the second box sat in Memphis for an extra week.

So I was able to occupy my time getting the printer up and running with the included filament while I waited for the second box. And I was just about to start making phone calls when tracking showed the package was on its way.

A few days after the second box arrived, I got an invoice from FedEx for $45 to cover tarrifs/taxes/VAT (whatever it's called).

Edit: I don't want to come off sounding like I blame Prusa at all. In fact, I'm super happy they shipped the printer separately, since it appears that item was "preapproved" to fly through Customs. Thanks Prusa!

WTH? It's a t-shirt. Who cares who's going to wear it? Do they think you and Prusa are smuggling drugs in the fabric? That's just weird and frustrating.
