Amazon Sellers - Insane Prusament prices

I am not up to date on Amazon's seller programs but is it legal/within terms of service to be selling another companies product through Amazon? Is this something that Prusa/Amazon could crack down on because it's crazy how someone is selling this filament for so much money compared to just going straight to Prusa to purchase it.

PETG for almost 3x the price!

RE: Amazon Sellers - Insane Prusament prices

I saw that the other day.

Somebody reported that Galaxy Black PETg was out of stock at Prusa so I did a quickie Amazon search and found one vendor gouging for it.

Here in the States there's not much control of small individual profiteers doing things like this.  Econ 101 says that in a free market, buyer and seller meet at the price point, and, unfortunately, there always appear to be people willing to pay the inflated prices.

We get news reports of profiteering on scarce popular toys every year.

One item that I've been keeping track of, as are several Prusa users, is the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, recently introduced.  This has a list price of US $15, which is intentionally kept low by the Raspberry Pi Foundation.  Gougers are selling it for US $50-ish and up.

Fortunately I found it in stock, for a few minutes, anyway, at one vendor's site and I jumped right on it.  It was out of stock again in a few hours.  That vendor is limiting sales of it to one per household per month, but things like that do not always stop the gouging.

On one hand I totally understand that in a free market there isn't much stopping me from purchasing all the stock of something and selling it for a profit. *Cough Xbox Series X* However on the other hand you would think that companies would have a way to restrict resale. Firstly I get it, for the business they're making sales and so they don't care if it's getting resold. Although it would be nice if companies could and would make the choice to enforce resale value or block it completely.

Thankfully in this case I just went straight to Prusa and bought my filament but again going back to my above comment nothing stops anyone from purchasing a product just to resell them for huge profits.

Shower thoughts: I feel like things like Coke cans and candy bars specifically say not for resale on them.

it depends where you're from .

for me , its actually cheaper to buy this filament from amazon then directly from prusa due to outrageous shipping prices .

on amazon i get free shipping .

on prusa the cheapest shipping option for single petg spool for me is 43.55$

Here in the States, some jurisdictions have statutes against profiteering and price gouging, but for one-off private sales, they are, although unethical, mostly legal.

Businesses can try to discourage it, with things like 'one per household per month', but in all practicality, it's difficult to control, as long as there are willing buyers, that is.

It may be there is a minimum shipping fee to your location. Try adding additional rolls of filament to your order and see where the shipping price changes. It may be the same price to ship 2, 3, or more rolls to your location, making it cheaper than the Amazon option in the end.

It’s worth a look anyway.

Cheers
