Airkoul Filament. Any Good?

So I ordered some filament on eBay for $16/free shipping for 1kg. I am curious if anyone here has used this stuff before and if they have what they thought of it and what settings worked best printing it.

For that price, I'm more inclined to stick with the more known brands. At minimum, I want to see a good number of user reviews.

Do post an update when you've got some experience with it. One complaint about some of the lesser-known brands is that they include the weight of the spool in that "1 Kg" advertising. Weigh it to see how much filament you get.

Re: Airkoul Filament. Any Good?

I usually weigh the filament and put the weight on the spool. so later I can estimate how much is left, before starting a print!

I also tend to write Talc, on PETG and TPU rolls, to remind me to take care to prevent over bonding to the buildplate!

I prefer not to use glue stick if I can help it!

Re: Airkoul Filament. Any Good?

Daniel,

Not sure where you are located, but if you are in the US and want low cost filament check out Fox Smart ( http://thefoxsmart.com/ ). I've bought a lot of their PLA ($12-$16/KG). True 1KG of filament. I've actually had good luck with printing with their PLA. The 2 issues that I have with their filament are:
1. The color doesn't always match what you expect it to be. For example their "red" is more like a reddish-orange color. Other colors have been varied as well... so don't assume RED is RED, BLUE is BLUE... they'll be a variant of that color.
2. Their spools are smaller diameter than what most use (6 3/8" diameter by 3 3/8" high) so the last 20% of the spool has a nasty coil to it. I've used a few spools all the way down to about a meter/yard worth of filament remaining on the spool... made me cringe, but the MK2S and MK3 that I have can do it. ---> I read someplace that they might be (or have) changed to a more standard size spool... I wouldn't know because I still have about 16 spools to go thru before reordering.

BTW - I used PRUSA, HatchBox, eSun, FoxSmart PLA so far and they all have worked well, for me.

- 1st "printer" TIKO 3D
- 2nd PRUSA i3 MK2S with MMU v1
- 3rd PRUSA i3 MK2S
- 4th PRUSA i3 MK3 with MMU v2- 5th PRUSA i3 MK4 (upgraded from MK3) with MMU v3 (upgraded from…

Re: Airkoul Filament. Any Good?

I use cheap $13-16 per kg PLA filament as well. They seem to work just fine and I agree with most of the comments.

The colors are sometimes a bit different than expected. Don't expect a perfect color match if you order again, even if it is from the same vendor.

The initial weight is typically around 1.15kg, so I suspect they are reasonably close on the actual weight. I haven't emptied a spool completely. The closest I have come started breaking as it got to the smaller diameter, so maybe the comment about the tight spool is completely correct.

Thanks, everyone.

Well, I finally got my Amazon PETG after a month. So far seems to print fine. Definitely not the same quality as the Prusa but ok for my needs.

The Airkoul was scheduled for delivery today but guess what, I live right in the path of Hurricane Florence so Fedex sent me a email saying basically forget it. They will be out next week, after the storm. Good thing I have two rolls to play with while things get nasty outside.

Ah I miss California. The occasional earthquake at 6 am would barely wake me up but here on the East Coast its Hurricanes, Hot *** summers and bugs. I really hate bugs.
