3D benchy that floats?
I'm new and don't know if this is the right place. I've made some 3D Benchy's from the Prusa SD card and my wife thinks they are cute. She thinks I should make some for our grandkids. But they don't float. I'm assuming this is a FAQ: is there a version of the Benchy that has been modified to float and is useful as a bathtub toy?
I assume this won't require a naval architect, just someone a bit more familiar with Fusion 3D than I am.
Thanks
Pat

Actually this caused me to do a better Google search, for "toy boats"
I don't really need a "Benchy™" just a fun boat for the bathtub
Er, it does require a certain amount of naval architecture...
The Benchy is a waterline model of a cartoon vessel - actually most benchies ever printed will float - just not the right way up.
It shouldn't be too hard to print a hull that could be glued to a benchy to complete the structure. It would need to be deeper than you might expect and to pause for a weight to be inserted, like the lead keel of a yacht, to correct the metacentric height. A major complication would be calculating the weight as the size would be a function of the infill percentage of the superstructure.
And then the default perimeters and layers used to make a Benchy *look* good are not very waterproof so water would tend to seep into the model...
Stick with those model boats and apply waterproofing paint or varnish.
Cheerio,
