Re: Magnetic chessboard

That is really beautiful. Very well done.

Can you share some details? What filament? Print time? Lessons learned? Slicer? (Was this your first attempt?)

You might want to consider the "Hilbert Curve" surface for the silver outer area. It makes a nice matte surface. (Slic3r)

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

Thanks. All filament is Hatchbox. Took about 15 hours to print with 2 M600 pauses to place the magnets. once to insert 64 8mm x 1mm for the squares and once to insert 4 3.175mm x 3.175 to hold the cover. Slic3r Prusa Edition. Good to know about "Hilbert Curve", I'll have to try that. The lower right section got messed up for some reason.

Designed in Fusion 360, printed numerous 2x2 boards to get the right magnet height (~1mm below top) where it holds but not too strong. Magnet strength can be further adjusted in playing pieces. Needed to glue down magnets and I double-checked polarity so they matched otherwise the entire print would be ruined.
