How to smooth Flexible PLA

I just printed this bow tie from flexible PLA. I am learning about supports and used a few to many. Where they broke off is rough and I would like to smooth it, but sandpaper does not appear to be working. Maybe I am not patient enough with it, but I wondered if anyone has any hints?

Proud owner of a Mk3 that is producing very nice prints. There is room for improvement as I learn more about it, but so far I am very happy.

You can get quiet good results when you use a heat gun.
The stringing will also be a thing of the past.
And a sharp knife is sometimes better than Sandpaper.

Flush cut cutters are also good for trimming models and a 'turbo' kitchen gas lighter (burns with a pointy blue flame) (soft yellow flames are 'carburising' and deposit soot on the model)

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK
