Web Camera image is squished (bad aspect ratio)

I have successfully set up Prusa connect with my MK4 and an old Samsung J3 phone.

But the image is squished, the aspect ratio is not correct. This is true for the preview on the phone and the submitted image to Prusa Connect. The camera app on this phone does not have this issue. I also tried front and back camera, same result for both.

App is running in the latest version of Chrome, but the OS is only Android 8.

Hi, thanks for the report, we haven't seen this behavior yet. I actually have some version of Samsung J3 in the office for testing which worked fine, but there seem to be various revisions available. Do you happen to know which model year is your phone?

Another helpful data point would be to check if the camera behaves correctly on different sites, perhaps something like this demo: https://webrtc.github.io/samples/src/content/devices/input-output/ . Would you please be able to have a look?

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

It's a Galaxy J3(2017) Model number SM-J330F.

I tried the site you recommended and it's the same issue there. The short edge is squished (or the long edge stretched) independent of if I rotate it horizontally or vertically.

Yeah, looks like something weird is going on. I just checked my office test phone - it runs Android 6 with Chrome 106 and despite being a bit slow, the camera app runs fine :). I'd try perhaps a different browser or maybe a clean install of the OS. I'm not an Android user, but experienced workmates suggest looking into some alternative ROM for your phone as well.

The OS is actually a brand new install. The phone was lying around unused for years, was never set up (I managed to get the wrong size SIM card in, but not out again 🙁 )

I'll try a different browser. If that doesn't work, I might just wait till I retire my S10e

I'd try to figure out whether there was an older OS that did not do this. Also try Firefox, it's the most different browser from the bunch.

I tired Chrome, Edge, Opera, Firefox and Samsung Internet. All with the same issue.

I also looked into installing a custom ROM, but all the instructions seem to be written for people who have done this already, so it's not worth the effort to me.

Thank you both for your help, but I think I just don't use this phone.

Okay. Yea, the guys probably wrote the instructions a couple of times already and they tend to assume some googling. It's the same as me explaining how to turn the ssh on the pi. The info is readily available, yet i wrote the guide like 20 times by now 😁 oh well, sorry it's broken
