Prints randomly stops without an error

Hi,

Problem: In the middle of the print, somewhere and sometime after (randomly) print stops without an error on LCD or web interface. I've tried so many thing I can find online but nothing helped.

I'm using prusa link (and connect) for 2 months and this situation happened to me too many times. I've changed my SD card 3 times, I've tried cooling the rpi, I've checked gcode, updated every software, etc. nothing changed.

This happened on both stable 0.7 and rc version of 0.71.

Also when I remove everything related to prusa link this problem didn't occur, I'm %99 sure this is somehow related to prusa link (software, hardware I don't know).

The rpi I'm using is rpi zero 2W (original).

I'll appreciate if anyone can guide me to solve this issue.

PS: I added last gcode which was being printed when this happened. Print halted at Z:51.80

Are you connect straight to the back of the einsy if so get a otg adapter and plug it in to the USB port on the einsy

Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models

Hi,

Yes I'm connecting directly to einsy board by pins as shown in the official page

I can try otg cable, but I don't understand the logic behind it, can you explain?

The solder connections are prone to vibrations, especially if soldered at home. I have torn of pads on one side of my pi by trying to re-solder them. The vibrations from the printer can make the imperfect connections crack and over time that results in the connection breaking.

I can't say that my soldering is good 🙂 I will try the OTG cable, hopefully I will find one tomorrow.

Will I need an extra power supply for rpi if I connect it to einsy board via USB port?

Yes so there are 2 ports on the rpi ma4ked on the board one is power in no data can be transferred one is data plug the einsy one into the data and plug a usb cable into the other port and connect it to a phone charger or computer to power it

You can power the pi from the einsy but i'd recommend the phone charger approach

Is it possible to get power from power supply of mk3s, I did something similar for my Ender 3 when converting it to klipper, with a buck converter.

I think there is no additional output in my prusa power supply (black), but I don't know if it is possible to use a Y splitter XT60 to get power for both machine it self and rpi (for rpi there will be additional a buck converter of course).

I just don't want to have another power socket to be wasted just for a rpi if possible 🙂 if not I will use the phone charger approach.

And hopefully this will solve my problem mentioned in main topic. Thanks for all the help.

RE: Prints randomly stops without an error

Two straightforward paths, either try to repair your pins and test by wiggling the pi around a bit, if nothing happens and Link still works, amazing. Or use proven USB. Combining these two is more difficult.

If you really want, solder the micro usb wires to male dupont cables, or empty long pins and stick those into the pins that were powering the pi from the einsy. Use Pi pinout as a reference.

There is a way, it's just more work trying to avoid soldering a think A by soldering.a thing B.

Or just test it with the external psu and see if the situation improves and then repair your pins or make a makeshift usb cable. IDK what more to say

Hello again, I want to update the situation.

I did USB connection as advised, but unfortunately same thing (stopping without any error message) happen again. it stopped at the 7th hour of 13 hours of print 🙁

I don't know what to do next instead of giving up from prusa link.

Have you tried reflashimg the sd card also do you have heatsinks on the pi as the pi could be overheating I'd recomed heatsimks and a fan

Yes I reflashed the SD card, but I don't have any heatsink or fan. I will try that too, thanks.

RE: Prints randomly stops without an error

Weird, do you by any chance have a log from that session? You can access it under settings in local web. I would like to see the syslog file. I had one intermittent bud that could stop the print like that. Wanna see whether it's that or something else

Sure I can, I attached a zip file containing log files.

This issue is happened at 21-September around 00:12:00 in my local time.

RE: Prints randomly stops without an error

Okay, can i get a little more info about what i can see from the logs?

At 17:23 (log time, might be off) a print finished.
At 17:33 another print was started
At 23:46 a reboot can be seen just happening randomly. The hell?
A little after midninght, you were watching the printer from a browser locally
Something happened between 00:12 and 00:40 that made your pi reboot 2 additional times
After that it does not even see the printer connected through USB
At 11:35 you went to check on it and the printer not only stopped printing but it's disconnected.
There is no sign of PrusaLink itself throwing an error that would make it stop.

There is a whackton of "Failed when reading from the printer. Trying to re-open" leading up to this. Is that just the printer being off while the raspi is still running or is that also unexpected?

All in all, this is one heck of a noisy log file

Due to usb connection and rpi being powered externally sometimes rpi was on most of the time while printer wasn't.

If I'm not wrong yesterday at 17:33 is the start time of my last print (which is stopped without an error at after midnight),  that is why a reboot at 23:46 is abnormal, that time print should be nearly at %45, so does that means rpi is rebooting it self while printing is in progress? Wonder why :/

Around 00:12 I saw the print halted, while in the lcd it was saying PRUSA LINK OK and if I'm not wrong at 00:40 I changed the power socket of the rpi, but disconnect it from the printer, so after that time rpi was on but not attached to printer via usb or any other way.

Thanks for trying to help me resolve this issue, I'm not very experienced in rpi and software so your (you and others) comments are most valuable for me.

RE: Prints randomly stops without an error

Okay, well, I had pis reboot randomly on me. They can be picky when it comes to the power supply. I had them bootlooping on an atx PSU for no apparent reason

RE: Prints randomly stops without an error

I know they are picky on power supply but even on Einsy board? My power source is good one, I don't think it is due to power adapter but again I will try to find another one just to try it.

For now what I will do is;

- Put a cooling fan and/or with a heat sink.

- Change the power adapter, I will find most powerful mighty (hah) power adapter for this little dude.

- I will pray to printer and raspberry gods more, I could even make some offerings to those gods (what should I offer to them).

If non of them works I will get back to my non-wifi printing life with my prusa mk3s.

Thanks again
