Assembly sequence when buildiing both MK4 and Enclosure

I will be assembling both my MK4 and Enclosure next week. Using my MK3S  to print all extra parts and mods. I wanted to know your opinion about whether to completely assemble the printer prior to following the enclosure instructions. I am trying to avoid redundant assembly and then disassembly of the MK4 that is required to install into the enclosure.

In short are there steps in the MK4 assembly that can be safely omitted (PSU, LCD, etc) with screwing up the assembly and returned to once the Enclosure steps dealing with these parts are reached? As much as I enjoy assembling the kits, it would be a time saver to know the proper sequence.

Thanks for your time.

Yes, for sure. I put my MK4 together, then less than a week later I put it in the enclosure.

PSU and LCD, as mentioned, are good ones. You need to remove both to put it in the enclosure. So just wait and install the wires to the PSU and LCD as part of chapter 2c of the enclosure assembly instructions. When you get to the step where you attach the PSU to the MK4, don’t skip this step, but rather jump ahead to enclosure chapter 2c, step 13, and install the frame bracket that comes with the enclosure in place of the PSU.

Don’t route any wires for the LCD or PSU along the MK4 frame as the instructions say. The enclosure instructions just have you unhook these. You can connect the wires inside the buddy box and secure with the zip ties inside the box per the instructions, just don’t attach them to any part of the printer that’s not inside the buddy box. Most of my wasted time dealt with unrouting cables I spent a bunch of time neatly routing along the frame.

Both Z-axis and Y-axis stepper motors: Either leave unconnected, route to the buddy box but do NOT attach to the frame, or skip ahead to the enclosure instructions, MK4 printer prep (chapter 2c) to see how they should be secured, and secure them to the frame following that method. (The MK4 instructions just have you bundle and secure them with the PSU/LCD wires that you will not be installing).

Hotend, X-axis, and hotbed cable bundles, wire per the MK4 assembly instructions. They are not touched during the placement of the printer into the enclosure.

I think this is it in regards to the printer. For the enclosure, you said ALL mods? Hinged lid? When it comes time to putting the lid on the enclosure, obviously don’t do that, because you’ll just need to remove it later to put the hinges on. Without the hinges it installs from the inside, with hinges it installs on the outside.

Hope this helps. Let me know if anything was confusing.

Oh, and you can assemble the LCD into its case, but if you do, do not use the LCD supports that come with the MK4. Refer again to chapter 2c of the enclosure instructions and assemble the LCD with the LCD supports that come with the enclosure. They are different than the MK4 supports.

RE: Assembly sequence when buildiing both MK4 and Enclosure

Thanks for the clear instructions....

What about the situation where I already have an enclosure that is housing my MK3S+. I will be receiving my fully assembled MK4 this week. What are the steps I will need to take so that I can put the MK4 into the enclosure (and remove the MK3S+)?

1. What parts of the MK4 will I need to remove? Are there instructions somewhere on the Prusa site?

2. What parts of the MK3S+ will I need to remove?
