Z axis not moving
I just updated to the latest firmware and wanted to print on my mini. Now the Z axis is not moving anymore. Doesn't need to have to do anything with the upgrade though.
If I recall correctly, you should be able to manually move the axis, not just trough the software, but also by turning the thread physically? It seems completely stuck but since I didn't use it for a while I'm not sure anymore.
RE: Z axis not moving
If you select settings in the printer menu,
and then select disable steppers,
is the Z axis still stuck?
RE: Z axis not moving
Stuck as in I should be able to move the thread with my hand? Then yes, it’s still stuck.
RE: Z axis not moving
Have you lubricated the z spindle?
If so, degrease the z spindle and nut!
@rene-4 has a good point. The leadscrew and follower are self lubricating and should not be oiled. The smooth rod next to it must be oiled.
Cheerio,
RE: Z axis not moving
The lead screw is not lubricated.
Sorry if I have been unclear about the situation., The mini isn't a new model and was working for quite some time. I ust didn't use it for a couple of month. Finished a print, turned it off, some month later turned it on and made the firmware upgrade. Started a print which failed homing and then discovered the Z-Axis seems to be completely stuck and not moving. The mini is located in a dry, well temperated room and enclosed that it didn't really even collect any dust during the month months not using it so I was very surprised when it seem to be stuck like that.
RE: Z axis not moving
OK. then it might be worth downgrading to the previous firmware., where your printer worked fine.
should be able to move the thread with my hand? Then yes, it’s still stuck.
Is this with power on and off?
Cheerio,
RE: Z axis not moving
Yes. Power on or off makes no difference. Disabling steppers also not. I was just not sure anymore if it should be movable by hand since I didn't use it for some time and don't understand how it can get so stuck without using it.
Steppers don't fail like that ...
