Weird Filament Dotting [Help]

Ello,

Im having this weird problem for my Prusa Mini+ 3D Printer. I started a prin t and I noticed that while printing the first layer It went smoothly with no hiccups until it went to the second lauer where it randomly started dotting and skidding rather than laying a smooth line. Plus for some rare occasions it has clicked a few times. (Im using PLA but I also tested with PETG and it had the same result

Solved!

Today, I tried to open up the extruder and see if that is the reason. I took out the filament driver gear and saw that a lot of plastic was stuck between the teeth. I just brushed it off with a bronze Brush till no plastic was stuck, put everything back together and it worked flawlessly! Plus I cleaned the PTFE tube and realigned the Idler screw.

Still quite weird how before I cleaned it, everything worked fine before the second layer.

Thank you for the advice!

If you can, post a picture.  This could be an extrusion issue.

For me this is usually lint or some other unseen object that is on my print bed causing the 1st layer to separate from the bed as it cools so it would not show up till  the nozzle is well past that spot. Make sure your bed is clean and if you still have issues upping the heat bed temp seams to help. The clicking is more than likely the nozzle bumping across the bumps.

After posting this I read what you had said and we might be talking about 2 different types of 'Dotting". If you mean it is not putting out enough plastic, you have either a clogged nozzle or you need to tighten you idler gear up against the other gear on the extruder.

Btw a pic. would help.
