Week old Mini same old problem

After printing for about 50 hours and was so happy the printer was not like the ones I read about. The disappointment set it once the clicking started last night. Clicking from extruder.

What I have done so far.

4 cold pulls.

Took apart the extruder and cleaned out the PLA shavings.

Check the grub screw on the extruder small gear.

Checked the PTFE hot end tube, mine was not short and not damaged. Replaced it anyway.

Lifted up the hotend after undoing the 3 grub screws.

Nothing blocked or jammed.

It prints OK and off OK.

If the extruder is clicking should one add more pressure or remove it from the tension screws?

RE: Week old Mini same old problem

I don't remember this as I switched months ago to a bmg clone which is working fine.

You could try adjusting the tension screw while printing to see if there the "magic" position that fix it, what You need is a slow print without retraction.

Try printing a large plate object such as the 75mm first layer calibration stl, in that object there is no retraction so if it clicks it should be the nozzle too close to bed or tension too or not enough screwed. in both case the print is slow enough to allow You adjusting the screw of the z offset on the fly.

then try a retraction test if it clicks more there is probably something wrong in the gears, I heard somebody sloving by changing the relative position of the gears (within screw holes tolerances) to fix a lag among teeths. do several trials and retry but in the end there is anything else.

just a thought.

Chatted with support last night and they suggested to lower the temp and remove some pressure from extruder tensioner. So far thats seem to be doing the trick. I'm not going to speak too soon but I have a 4 hour print running that normally starts to screw up about half way. We are past the half way so we shall see. He examined my prints after he stayed on the chat until I printed the test whistle file, he told me its looking good with the temp lower and tension changed but they also say to check my belt tension. Which I'm going to do today. Found that interesting.

They didn't tell me to but I'm removing my filament sensor I feel this is adding some clamping force to the smooth filament path. It feels better without it.
