Sanity check on Prusa Mini noises while printing.

Just received my Mini the other day and got everything assembled. I would kindly request a sanity check on the sound my Mini is making please!

The noise is apparent during faster movements and during the straight perimeter movements as well. It has a grindy sound that I want to verify if it's fine, or if the bearings need lubrication.

While not printing, I notice that the bed generally requires a moderate amount of force to move by hand, and sounds somewhat rough as well.

I used PrusaSlicer's Mini profile at 0.2mm quality at 15% infill for this print, and am printing CHEP's calibration cube.

@dahuafschmied

My Mini arrived with 4.0.2 installed, but I've upgraded to 4.0.3.

@dahuafschmied

Well noted! I downgraded back to 4.0.2 and the movements are much quieter! It's definitely not as grindy as it was when I was on 4.0.3. I reprinted my CHEP calibration cube and it doesn't "grind" during the perimeters anymore.

Thanks for the tip!

4.04 is out now - it would be interesting to see if that version shows the issue or not.

Hello together,

yesterday I received my mini and I have exact the same noise but the installed FW is already version 4.0.5

In fact it is so loud that my girlfriend already complained about it while she is sitting in the room next to me. Ender 3 with silent motherboard is way more quite.  what can I do? is this normal? could someone post a video how loud it should be ? I was printing with the default profile in 0.2 mm QUALITY.

Thanks for the help.

RE: Sanity check on Prusa Mini noises while printing.

Hello again,

I made a video where I move the bed by hand to hear the sound.
I printed a cylinder and the surface finish is not what I expected, at least not from a prusa printer and all the videos that I have seen.
The surface is not smooth, it has many small wrinkels and  artefacts.

Best,

Tommy

I’ve had my mini for 4 days now and have the same issue. The y-axis makes a loud noise as it travels. It can be heard throughout the house.

Same problem here and I am printing at 0.2mm speed with firmware 4.3.1. How can I fix it? I am going to try to print some sound dampening feet but the sound makes me think something is wrong.

Came here because I just unboxed my Mini+ (shipped with 4.3.1) and have the same experience.  I heard rave reviews about how quiet it is and glad to see others are noticing the same problem - hopefully a fix will be coming for these certain movements.  Only as far as printing the Prusa logo and the base yells like mad - the lettering, not so much (well, only 65% through the print as I type this).

Also have this issue with newly bought MINI with 4.3.1! Hoping an update will fix this like 4.0.4 did for OP!

I've also got a brand new Mini+ that is much louder than expected.  Not quite as loud as my Ender 3's were originally, but much louder than they are with the quiet motherboards.  I can have 3 enders running with less whining noise than the 1 mini, and can clearly hear it in another room with the doors closed.

Mine are not that loud.  I did lubricate the rods and bearings.  I would definitely consider that.

I finally fixed

I noticed that this would only happed on the left side of the build plate. So I did a self test and recalibrated the first layer and faun that the hotend was very slightly sagging on the left side. So I went along and removed the entire heat bed assembly from the rest of the printer, reattached it making sure everything was tight and lined up. Then I tighter a lot of screws and the problem was resolved. So I recommend a quick disassemble and tightening the screws.
