New Mini problems
My Mini+ arrived today. It's my first FDM printer (ignoring a Sapphire Pro i had for a day then sent back as it was broken out of the box) and the assembly was a bit of a pain.
First, I had the wrong instruction manual which didn't have the correct hole for the Y axis cable so I didn't feed it through before attaching the Z axis. Then I had real trouble with one of the t nuts sitting too low in the extrusion so even though it was in the correct place the screw couldn't grab it. Then the filament runout sensor was too tight, and I couldn't get the ptfe tube all the way in. It's far enough to allow filament to feed though, but it was a real fight to get it that far in and I can't get it fully seated. Then, due to the wrong instructions I thought I had the wrong screw for the LCD then spent ages wondering why the 12mm was too short.
Finally, when i did a calibration print the nozzle was too far away on the left of the bed, but too close on the right to the point where it scratched the PEI. I checked bed level and it wasn't flat, so I lifted the right side of the frame to level and it printed fine, but how can that happen? Surely if the x axis and bed aren't parallel, as in my first calibration print, rotating the entire frame won't square them up?
All in all a very frustrating afternoon, but it seems to be assembled and working ok so tomorrow i'll dial in the z offset (currently at a rather large 1.350) and do a first print. Any idea how big an object the provided PLA can print? Also, does the Z offset need changing every time i change sheet, or will it remember one value for PLA and another for PETG? I have both the smooth sheet and textured and it'll be a bit annoying having to run a z calibration every time i swap them over just to adjust the z.
RE: New Mini problems
Well, everything is experience, this will make You stronger and confident next time You'll need to fix something else.
Under settings->HW Setup You can set up to 8 different z offset according to different steel sheets. I personally don't use it as once practiced I get easier adjusting it on the fly. Everyone has its own preferred way.
look for ZX skew fix in the prusa web site edit: here, unfortunately due to its design changing the x belt tension alters the angle among x axis and print bed.
RE: New Mini problems
FWIW, my Z offsets (both sheets) were way more than expected as well, probably twice what they are on my MK3S. But it prints fine on both.
