Mesh Bed Levelling not working . . . ?

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help with this.

After successfully building a MINI+ (with NO screws left over!!!) and the self test running through flawlessly, I tried a mesh bed level and then a First Layer Calibration (FLC).

So, the head started at the far side of the heatbed way too high and I started lowering the head with the knob - but when the head reached the nearside (next to the Z-axis column) the head was dangerously close to the heatbed. I then watched the FLC and surprisingly, at the nearside the head was at the 'correct' height but at the farside the head was always 4-5mm high. Needless to say, the final small rectangle print was cr*p!!!

I am surprised as I thought that the PINDA sensor is supposed to compensate for heatbed level differences.

Any ideas?

Hi

Seems you have XY axes squaring pb. There is a similar post there https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/first-print-bed-leveling-failed/

Issue solved following that procedure https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/xz-axis-skew-correction-mini-mini_158518

My guess is that PINDA cannot compensate such a gap (5mm or more)

To be sure you can contact Prusa tech support by chat from eShop web page

Hope it'll help

See this article and pay attention on B. Large correction chapter.

Thank you  jcjames_13009 and BogdanH.

I used the major levelling in the article and it has improved the gap difference. I'm guessing that if I elongate the screw holes in the plastic ends holding the extrusion nearest to the Z axis with a small round file, I'll get more play . . . but that'll be a 'last resort'! 🙂

The FLC is working much better and a test print across the heat-bed showed remarkable accuracy and an obviously working PINDA sensor.

I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Jon

Hi Jon

Good news

From my “short” experience and what I read about Prusa MINI, I don't think so you need to apply mechanical changes on it to correct issues. Following assembly instructions from Prusa web site and applying procedures from the knowledge db is enough

The 2 or 3 times I faced issue with my printer, pb was coming either from mechanical adjustment (squaring, unsecured screw, …) or modified/non-standard parameters in PrusaSlicer

Have fun
