As indicated above, it is a issue that several people share. I am in exactly the same situation. I managed to continue to use the printer by using a screwdriver and shorting the bottom left tab on the knob when you remove the screen from the printed case. However, it is now completely jammed and not functional. I have to wait for several days until Prusa return from their break to request a replacement screen/encoder combo.

I am still printing though as I'm using Pronterface from my computer, in a fashion that reminds me of 10 years ago with my old RepRaps.

Sorry, but have you even tried to use the search engine? Also if you would have had a look into the topics, you would have seen that there are already 3 threads existing.

I don't understand why people throw their questions into a topic to get some answers directly, instead of watching 2 more minutes to find the already answered threads with exactly the same questions..

This should be nothing against you, but the next guy looking for some answers have to read through tons of duplicated stuff instead of clearly finding answers for his question...

It’s better to give than to receive. Especially advice.

I had the same issue, a tiny dab of WD40 into the mechanics of the knob cleared it right up, the knob has been working fine since.

@axel-s

That is great!

I’ve not tried that as mine is now completely seized and I’m pretty sure I made it worse by using the screwdriver.

Mine got to that point as well, try giving it a drop of WD40 or similar and try to loosen it, might actually work!

Mine has now completely gone and I snapped one of the "arms" of the encoder whilst making a video to send to Prusa support, I'm waiting on Support to decide what to do.

If someone with a broken one would de-solder it to share some model number or manufacturinc company would be a service to all users. Then the one with broken knobs can manace to get easier replacement due to prusas limited shiping capacities.  Guess most of the guys woild prefer to buy a 2 or 3 bucks expensive rotary encoder than wait 2 weeks for replacement from prusa.

Agreed, but I’m unable to do this until Prusa get back to me. Last from Support was that they may want the part sent back.

The encoder seems pretty standard and I have several lying around (throughole variants of the SMD part). I can’t imagine that the pin and signal out is any different to the part on the lcd.

I do caution that desoldering from a PCB like this is often difficult and you can lift the pads if not careful.

My knob was completely locked up and I gave it some shots of food-grade silicone and it's up and running again. Still a bit persnickety about wanting to be pushed but the problem seems to be solved.

RE: LCD knob stuck / broke down

My LCD control knob stem got broken when my cat knocked something off of a table near my MK3S printer.  After a few minutes, I noticed that the plastic knob was laying on the floor near the printer and the stem was in a bent position, almost totally broken off.  I've tried unsuccessfully to solder it back on and the best it does, is it allows access to the menu but I can't turn the knob to adjust any settings or start a print etc.  I ended up shelling out $100 Canadian to order a whole new LCD display for the sake of a silly accident.

Besides using pronterface or octoprint, does anyone know of a work around to use the printer until my new part arrives?
