first layer issues?

Hello! I've just gotten my prusa mini in the mail today, set it up and did two test prints which mostly turned out great. However, while the rest of the prints has little to no issue, the bottom layers were a bit stringy, with a some peeling off. (these were printed from the example files using the sample prusament galaxy black, on the smooth steel sheet.)

This is my first FDM printer, is this simply an issue with my nozzle being too far from the plate? I did the calibration and it seemed to go well, but I found it a bit odd that the rest of the print turned out great and only the first layer had issues. Thanks for any advice!

(also... this is a silly question, but just to make sure: when adjusting z-axis height, a negative modifier means closer to the plate, correct?)

Best Answer by JoanTabb:

yes a larger negative number means closer to the build plate.

your live Z seems too high at the moment,
Prusa First layer configuration is not easy to use,

Try the process in this thread

thank you! ^^ I was afraid of moving the live z too far down but that was indeed the problem. Now getting nice smooth first layers and great little prints!
