First layer issue
Hi,
does anybody know why I keep getting first layers with strange spots like in the picture attached?
I tried everything from cleaning the bed ten times in a low to lowering the nozzle until it almost touched the bed but nothing seems to help.
Happens especially with PETG and the textured sheet.
Desperate,
Chris

Looks like you are way too low. Raise your live Z a bit.

RE: First layer issue
The other thing that can contribute to that is bed contamination. Basically oils from your fingers, IPA doesnt remove it, it just moves it around. Unless you use LOTS and lots of ipa.

OK. Will try.Thanks

Oh. I always thought IPA would remove skin fat. So dish soap or something different?

Dish soap and plenty of hot water.

I don't know enough to know if this is correct so I go belt and braces, boiling water, soap and a good scrub. When dry, wipe with IPA but only right to left and front to back. Don't know if the IPA makes any difference but I get a realy nice first layer on my glass bed.
RE: First layer issue
IPA dissolves oils into solution. They in effect spread the oils around into a nice thin layer that is deposited when it evaporates. So its ok initially but the amount builds up over time until all of a sudden its not ok and you get parts detaching. Of course some is carried away on a wipe if thats what you are using too so its not like ipa wipes are totally useless.
Dish soaps are a detergent and work differently. They surround the oils and so when rinsed the contaminants are washed away along with the detergent. You do need to make sure that your dish soap/detergent is plain though as additives like scents can also cause problems.
I am very careful about touching my sheets, I can get away with a detergent wash once every few weeks with zero IPA used at all. Even when printing all week. Its also easier to tell if you have finger oils on a smooth sheet than a textured one.

They in effect spread the oils around into a nice thin layer
but presumably at a much lower concentration.
