Can’t stop the stringing!

Hello Prusa team, I’m looking for some help with stringing issues. I’m using the Prusa slicer and I started with using the default mini profile and I’ve tried modifying multiple settings including the following 

 

  • Retraction length - I’ve tried settings between the default 3.2 iteratively up to 6.5 without any noticeable change. 
  • Idler tension - I started with the screw flush and began tightening it. It’s as tight as it can go now and it showed the most noticeable improvement.
  • Retraction on layer change check box - this showed some improvement.
  • Layer temperature - I tried temps from 190-215 and showed some improvement with anything under 210. 

Im not sure what else I can try at this point and looking for help! Thank you.

I had to take a white PLA filament down to 170C, which entailed changing the low extrude threshold. 

to stop stringing. 

and I have an Orange PLA  filament that won't print nicely below 230C  so  temperatures are not set in stone...

Large retraction values will trip you up as model complexity increases. 

the default retraction is 4mm, for My Mk2 with MMUv1 (Which is also bowden feed)I typically use 2mm retractio with that printer

I detailed my adventures with fine stringing here. In short, I found that most stringing went away when I:

  1. Ensured that the filament was dry and had not absorbed any moisture, drying it if necessary.
  2. Calibrated my extrusion multiplier for each brand and type of filament.

These steps ensure that your slicer settings actually match the real-world printer and filament values. The more accurate the slicer result, the less likely you'll get a bit of over or under extrusion. A bit of over extrusion can contribute to stringing.

Thanks for the input. I tried lowering the temps and got my best print at 180c. I finally after 31 tests got fed up and bought another filament and after the first test I got a perfect print!!!! Thank you all for the input!

If it's an older mini, you may need to replace your bowden tube here's what mine looked like after a few years
