ASA Pillowing and how to solve ?

So I'm experiencing pillowing when it comes to printing ASA on my mk3s+ with an enclosure,

I've used the glue stick provided and also on a textured sheet, used a 5mm brim, left Fan on standard 20%

Filament is extrudr® DuraPro ASA with the default settings suggested in slicer

I'm wondering if I need to adjust the ASA settings when it comes to the Fan and so on.

I assume that the bottom layer is starting to come away and curl causing the nozzle to have more contact on the top layer causing the issue.

smaller parts I have no issue except for when it comes to holes and they tend to sag, anyone know a work around for this as I assume its a fan cooling issue because its not cooling the layer enough to support the one above.

Could the Satin sheet be the answer to all my problems when it comes to bed adhesion

That's not what we normally refer to as pillowing, when the top layer doesn't hide the infill structure but you are correct, this is the top-layer result of warping, often related to poor adhesion on the first layer.

As we have no picture of the underside it isn't possible to tell whether the part lost adhesion or instead pulled the bed off the magnets and bent it under thermal contraction.

My first recourse in this type of situation is to raise the bed temperature a little then, if possible, edit a few slots into the design to break long extrusion runs and relieve stress.

Cheerio,

Cheerio,

Yes you are correct, I was just googled the reference and thought the grooves on the top surface looked similar to others.

I forgot to take a image from the back but can once I get chance.

Great idea on the slots, something I can do and hopefully helps, will raise bed temp as suggested also.

Wondering if I should no use the glue and just print direct onto the textured plate which would add to a better first layer adhesion

thank you for the help,

it's much appreciated  in my quest to conquer ASA

Try a draft shield (full height skirt) with the brim extending under and beyond the draft shield. I've had pretty good luck with that, Even though I do have an enclosure, it still improves things. Have the draft shield far away from the object in case it separates from the bed.

Regards,

Mark

to be honest I am having the issue on both my mini's and mk3s+ so I doubt it really matters which forum its in.

Figured out my adhesion problems and using some 3Dlac it’s secured to the bed without any warp

now my issue is to get a smooth top

I’ve tried different patterns but haven’t had consistency to reproduce a smooth top
