OctoPrint + Obico AI Failure Detection — Complete Setup Guide for Core One

I spent a lot of time getting OctoPrint with AI failure detection working properly on my Core One. The main challenge is the Buddy camera — it doesn't natively provide a usable feed for OctoPrint, so you need go2rtc to bridge that gap. I ended up with a setup that's been running reliably for months and catching failed prints before the filament hits the fan (a little poop joke for you right there). Since sharing the guide, I've heard from others who have followed it and got their setups running successfully.

I saw repeating questions here and on Reddit about OctoPrint on the Core One, and since this info was not all readily available online, I decided to close the gap and make a guide.

What the setup gets you

  • OctoPrint controlling your Core One over USB at 230400 baud
  • AI failure detection via Obico — watches your prints and auto-pauses on spaghetti / blob-of-death
  • Remote monitoring from your phone via the Obico app
  • Live 1080p camera feed from the Buddy camera (also works with USB cameras)
  • PrusaSlicer direct upload with thumbnails and cancel-object support
  • SD card protection, automated backups, everything auto-starts on boot

This doesn't replace Prusa Connect

It runs alongside it — you can still print via Prusa Connect whenever you want. Obico can still watch and notify you when printing from Connect, it just can't auto-pause (only OctoPrint-initiated prints can be paused).

All you need is a Raspberry Pi 4B (or 5), a high-endurance SD card, and a USB cable.

I'm keeping the guide on GitHub rather than pasting it here so I can keep it updated as things change. The repo has a full setup guide with detailed explanations (~1,500 lines) and a condensed quick guide with just the commands.
