Filament drybox on the right side
Hey folks,
after years with Ultimaker, I jumped to Core One; built the kit, prints fine. Now I'm slowly wading through different mods on printables and came across the Side door for filament cover.
It seems rather reasonable, but it's not much of a drybox with the gaping holes in the side panel.
I'm wondering -- how terrible of an idea would it be to seal the seams with some silicone sealant (say, black Sikaflex-522).
But maybe I'm not seeing some obvious problem with this. So, how bad of an idea is it?
RE: Filament drybox on the right side
I use polymaker dry boxes that sit on a ledge. When done it goes back on the shelf.

At the top of my head the only problem I can see is that it would be difficult to remove if you change your mind. The mod looks beautiful, but I think I would prefer having plenty of Prusa USS Dryboxes instead since that feels like a bit more flexible and expansive system.
RE: Filament drybox on the right side
I'm with you regarding the USS Dryboxes. If only they weren't unobtainium. 🙂
But even changing my mind, the only permanent mod would be the black silicone seal around the seams of the Right side sheet metal, so maybe not a big deal?
I mean, some of the sealants (and probably goes double for the Sikaflex) are kinda hard to remove without a trace, especially if there's paint on the sheet metal. So the danger is, worst case, blowing some 20€+s&h on a replacement if I mess up royally and don't like the result. Hmm.

Using my similar https://www.printables.com/model/1556359-core-one-side-dry-box-cover I regularly get 15% humidity, so I did not try to further seal it. The enclosure fans do move some air through the dry box area.
Regards,
Mark
RE: Filament drybox on the right side
Whether it is useful or not kind of depends on your workflow. I frequently replace out filaments depending on my projects but it's enough that portable and easily detachable dry boxes work best for me. Also, especially with Nylon, I print it from the drier while it's drying. So a semi-permanent drybox would get in the way.
