Best £3.20 mod I've ever made.

Best £3.20 mid I've ever spent. Went to the builders merchants and bought a 400mm X 400mm X 40mm paver slab and it has transformed the printer, it is no longer the printer slinging thing it was and now just moves a little on the table I have it sat on, granted the table could be a lot better and I'm probably going to end up putting it on the floor, but for anyone looking to reduce the slinging about movement, this is the cheapest solution.

Normal people believe that if it is not broke, do not fix it. Engineers believe that if it is not broke, it does not have enough features yet.

Put some foam mat (for yoga, camping, ...) under the paver and it should not move the table anymore.

I splashed out £10 at Dunelm for a "granite worktop protector" (AKA chopping board) which is the posh version of the paving slab mod. Works a treat!

has anyone compared the slab with the stock feet to either squash ball feet or squash ball and a slab? i had squash ball feet on my mk4s and also now on my core one. they absorb a lot of vibration. i don't know if there's really any difference or not. i'm going to print a couple things that i know would ring on my 4s to compare.

Maybe put another slab on top of the printer? To reduce the tendency of the printer itself trying to jump off the table...

If the printer is sitting on a firm plate (in my case a very solid table with a very thick wooden plate) using the delivered rubber strips feet, it ise motionless, you don't really need anything else. The slab of heavy material (concrete or posh version 😀 ) or sitting the printer on the pavement is of course a viable alternative. I believe that the squash balls have another use: decouple the printer from the table so that the table doesn't wobble and destroy itself (the reverse principle of the heathquake protection systems for highrisers).

Remember what the slab is for - it changes the weight and therefore the resonant frequency of the printer/table system.  If the printer resonates with the table it may be unacceptably noisy even though the printer itself is quiet - moving the printer to a different table (if possible) is often all that is needed.  Alternatively changing the speed of your printing - by default slowing it down, also works quite often.  If you are unlucky the weight of the slab may change the table resonance to another frequency emitted by the printer - so getting an X wobble in place of a Y wobble for example so try two or three different weights of slab if the first tried doesn't help - lighter slabs can sometimes be better than heavier.

Cheerio,

I have a sensitive neighbor below me, and I needed to completely muffle the printer's noise. The first change, as discussed by CNC Kitchen, was the use of a concrete paving slab. The slab rests on an equally thick layer of rigid foam. Regarding the aesthetics on my desk, it's easy to cover the foam slab with an aesthetically pleasing covering, and the benefit for me is very noticeable.

The second change is the addition of HULA vibration-dampening feet ( https://www.printables.com/model/873633-hula-v10-anti-vibration-feet-for-prusa-mk34-core-o).

For me, they work effectively because the prints are quieter and just as (or perhaps even better) precise despite the sometimes high speeds.I've been using this system since April of this year.

And I achieved the desired effect – the printer only makes high-pitched sounds without Stealth mode; the low/rumbling sounds are gone. And these penetrate the walls most through the floor.
