RE: Any alternative for rivets?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008MP06SG - I ordered these as my upgrade kit didn't have a pile of spares. So far I haven't had to replace any so perhaps it wasn't necessary to get 100 more. 🙂
(Full disclosure: I work for Amazon.)
RE: Any alternative for rivets?
I learned to like these rivets. Aesthetic, easy to insert and remove, reusable, and wouldn't crack the plastic panels.
RE: Any alternative for rivets?
i wondered about the rivets too. but with the weight spread out over 11 rivets on each side for the handles, they seem fine. no vibration otherwise.
love the tool that zapta posted.

Thanks, I will give McMaster a try... I picked up a few other items to reduce impact on shipping cost.
Drill and Tap for M4-07 Torx screw
I quickly decided that the rivets made little sense. What I did was drill out all the side connector holes to tap for an M4-07 Torx screw.
This has proved very useful as I had been dealing with the upgrade to the core one + as well as the rebooting issue due to a lack of a effective ground from the x and y axis to the painted frame.
It's had to understand why Prusa went for the silly rivets when a m3 torx would have been a no brainer. The m4 is a bit bigger as a result of the existing holes being to big for an M3. But as you can see from the photos the m4's don't look that out of place.

RE: Any alternative for rivets?
I haven't tried any of the many rivet removal tools on Printables, but my go-to method for removing the rivets (on my enclosure, I haven't built my C1+ yet) is to push from the inside. Press the center pin to recess it enough that outer leaves can collapse. Often by the time I've pushed the center pin enough, the rest of my finger is pushing on the leaves and the whole thing slides out of the hole enough to grab from the outside and fully remove it. (Or it pings across the room if I'm not careful enough.)

RE: Any alternative for rivets?
Those river removal tools suck. You need to squeeze an edge under the pin head. Which means that after a couple of rivets the perimeters of the removal tools begin to disintegrate

RE: Any alternative for rivets?
The textbook solution is to have threaded metal inserts (see pictures) and screws. But if the option is just a few threads in a thin sheet metal, I prefer the plastics inserts for long lasting maintainance.
RE:
I am still not exactly sure how the rivets are meant to work. But it seems that we just have to remove the pin. I just use the pliers to remove the pin. The base stays put.

After you remove just the pins, you can certainly pull away the panel while the outer collars of the rivets are still in place. The two prongs of the collar are no longer forced apart by the pin, so they can be compressed a bit and clear the hole in the metal frame.
But the prongs have may undergone some plastic deformation and remain spread apart a bit. So it may not be easy to push the collars back into the metal frame's holes later, when you reinstall the panel. You may find that some of the collars get pushed out entirely and fall off. Or you may find that it is difficult to put the panel back in place, or may mangle some collars by spreading their prongs wide. (If they don't want to pass through the holes and you push too hard.)
So I prefer to remove all the collars -- either at the same time when I remove the pins, or after I have taken off the panel. I only put them in again when reinstalling the panel, pushing them through panel and frame at the same time. (If the prongs are spread wide, I squeeze them closer with my fingers before inserting the collar.) Then push in the pin to secure the rivet.

You might need to find a new link - the R3045 is not available on that link. How about this one R3045 ? Same rivet?
Cap diameter 4.2 mm (A). Rod Diameter M3 (3mm) (D) Board hole diameter 3.1 mm. Length 6.1 mm (E)
Cap thickness 1.2 mm (B). Rod Length 4.5 mm (L) Board Thickness. 2.0-3.0 mm

The pins are probably best used once and done? A replacement pack off 55 rivets is available from PRUSA for $11.99. (Nylon Rivet 3.1 x 4.5 - 55 pc)

I don't see how the pins would wear out at all. They only slide in and out of the Nylon color and don't see any sharp edges, hence there should be no wear and tear.
Early on I have mangled a couple of the collars when re-assembling a panel with the collars still inserted, by spreading their prongs wide instead of pushing them through the frame profile hole. I have not reused those because I felt the material might weaken too much if I try and bend them back into shape. But by pulling out the collars and only re-inserting them through both, panel and frame, during assembly, I can reliably avoid that problem and have re-used all rivets since.
