Any alternative for rivets?
I recently finished to assemble my Core One. I removed the right plate to check something on the filament sensor, and couldn't reuse half of the rivets because they broke. Now I have to remove the left plate to install the camera, and I'm sure to waste a few again.
I know Prusa sent a lot of spares, but at this rate I'll run out sooner or later.
Did anyone found an alternative to those crappy rivets to fix the panel? Something I can remove and put back without "consuming" whatever was keeping the plate in place.
RE: Any alternative for rivets?
I also initially felt that the plastic rivets were a bit of a botch. But now I quite like them: Easy to install (just from the outside), you can't overtighten them, and they have not caused any rattling panels on my printer.
How did you end up destroying half of the rivets? They are meant to be reusable. You can either push out the locking pin from the inside, or pry it out with a plastic spudger or guitar plectrum from the outside; then pull out the outer piece if it has not already come out together with the pin. Before re-inserting the split outer piece, just make sure to squeeze it together a bit if it is too wide-open.
RE: Any alternative for rivets?
I think it was when putting them back. I'll try what you're saying about pulling the outer piece out before reinserting, maybe that was the issue.

I may create TPU rubber-like rivets... or rubbets. I think I'll call them Bunny Rubbets. - Anyway, the stock rivets are awful as with having to remove them to do maintenance. I'm thinking about creating TPU "hinges" and TPU snap latches on the side plate above the filament. This way I can just pop it open a tinker around without fiddling with the rivets.

I am not sure whether I am correctly envisioning what you have in mind. But if I do, you might find that they should better be called 'rattlets'. 😉
RE: Any alternative for rivets?
OK I think I kinda get it, they broke because they were too "open" when I tried to put them back. You do have to squeeze them before reinsterting, but it's pretty annoying because they never get as tight as when they're new and you have to be extra careful when putting them back.

Right -- if you try to push the rivets back in while they are too wide open, they won't go into the hole but you rather force the two "jaws" even further apart until they break.
I have not had any problems with re-inserted rivets having a looser fit than originally, and I don't see how that could be the case. They do not rely on elastic force pushing the two jaws apart. Rather, when you push in the locking pin, it will force the jaws apart. So there will again be a positive lock.
RE: Any alternative for rivets?
I think the rivets are a great idea. There’s a knack to taking them out and putting them back. I can get the top off in seconds, they’re the only ones I’ve needed touch.
Ive never broken one…although I’ve pinged a few across the room though.

Sorry I don't mean that they have a looser fit - when they're inserted again, they're fine.
It's just that you can't never really get them closed enough to be as easy to insert as a new one.

I agree. With freshly cut nails, I needed to use my my little black tweezers to keep them tight, while inserting.
