Upgrading Print/Part Cooling Fan

I'm thinking about swapping out the noisy stock part cooling fan for a Sunon MF5015 blower fan.  It's a 12V fan and obviously not a direct drop in replacement to the stock 5V fan.  My question is will the PWM signal for the 5V fan be able to control the 12V fan, if I use a step-up regulator to supply the higher voltage?

Thanks

If your cooling fan is noisy it's worth trying a drop of oil...  On the back of the fan is a central sticker. peel it back carefully and put just one drop of oil onto the central hub.  Replace the sticker.

The fan isn't designed for this but it works more often than not.

Cheerio,

Thank you for the tip! Just tried it and it is much quieter now, even during fast X axis back and forth movements when the play in the fan shaft would cause a rattle.
