Silicone Hot End Sock
I know they are not 100% necessary, but it also keeps the hotend clean, is there such a thing for the mini?

Search about on these forums. I recall somebody developing molds for casting your own. Not sure of they're offering any to the public.

Not sure of the quality.
RE: Silicone Hot End Sock
On Facebook in the /groups/prusaminiusers there is a person named Thomas Levendig who makes and sells them to people. I made my own with the form printed from the Prusaprinters.org. See the thread here with details.

I bought some after PETG turned my hotend in a mess en clogged my 0.4mm nozzle
They are a real boon when keeping your hotend clean
Basic E3D silicone ones fit the mini nicely

@ksweir

RE: Silicone Hot End Sock
Will do
RE: Silicone Hot End Sock
Got a sock from Thomas Levendig in the mail a few days ago (actually it was two - one as a backup if i have a really bad filament block around it or destroy it in some other way). Yesterday i found time to put it on.
It fits perfectly and seems to be of good quality as far as I can tell. first two prints with the sock on worked just fine.

Looks like the design of the sock from Ali-express has an issue with blocking airflow from the cooling fan. Check comments on the following post on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/prusaminiusers/permalink/3432088120187844

Could you list the comments? I have an aversion to Facebook and it is a closed group. I think these forums are a better location anyway.

RE: Silicone Hot End Sock
The issue is that the classical silicone socks you find on the market do not follow the chamfered edge of the heatblock, so it creates some resistance to the airflow coming from the fan.
One way to decrease a little bit this issue (since the socks are very cheap) is to cut (with a knife / cutter) that edge, to make it a little bit chamfered like the heatblock, so that it will oppose less to the airflow. You can cut more, and uncover the heatblock, but allow airflow, or cut less, to keep the heatblock covered but allow also the air to flow almost "flawless" 🙂
RE: Silicone Hot End Sock
ordered mine too.
How problematic is the "flow issue", I mean, is it more something "academical" or something with a real world impact 😀 Or just in some cases where people printed super detailed mini figures with low tolerance using PETG or TPU or even other more exotic material.
Thanks

@herbert
I have not had an issue yet. I have had an issue with some of the V6 Silicone socks on my MK3Ss. The sock shifts to block the nozzle and then slowly backs up until it pushes the sock off. Nasty mess to clean up. I started enlarging the hole with a hole punch.

RE: Silicone Hot End Sock
For those who are interested, I've just opened my webshop for self-made silicone socks (I'm that guy from Facebook some talked about) after having shipped over 400 socks. I've made even more. The new and improved V2 is available as well, in 4 colour options but more will come soon for the customized mini's.
My webshop is shop.levendigdsgn.com

"Could you list the comments? I have an aversion to Facebook and it is a closed group. I think these forums are a better location anyway." Soo true, Facebook is about NOW however trivial, 5 minutes ago is old news, totally sucks compared to a real board.
