RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod

Sorry for not checking this thread for folks who can't PM. I sent messages to folks who want a kit, let me know if you didn't get one.

Also, I think this link should be the first part of the mod: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/xz-axis-skew-correction-mini_158518

I didn't understand how skew was compensated for when I did the mod. I now think that one should use the above method to fix any skew before you start the mod using the fixed spacers as a reference. That will make the level tweaking go much easier. I should have done that before I did my mod.

The skew correction seems to eliminated  most of my issue.

I have ordered a precision square to calibrate it as well. The bed is mostly unlevel at the 200 200 spot by the Z axis. This should be 5!

Thanks, I got your message but I can't reply (because I'm new). I'll try and reply to a few threads and see if that does it.

RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod

Thanks to mcjamez for posting link to xz skew from prusa knowledge base.  I checked my bed level and it was 0.5 mm off all along the left hand side.  I adjusted per the linked arcticle and now have it down to 0.147 varaiation across the whole plate.  Got 1 hight spot in the middle that the xz adjustment cant fix.

Reading the Prusa Mini MBL output, left to right:

Reading the converter's output, left to right:

To answer your question, row 0 is the front row of the MBL output.

BTW: looking at your output, it seems your Z/X gantry is not perpendicular to your Y-axis. Please deal with that before attempting the silicone mod.

@rockytoptim

Your 1/1CW value is near to bed power connector.

So it is as you see from the front of the printer. Convenient.

@benji

Thanks for the detailed documentation 👍

The problem with adjustment is that the bed is fixed on 9 points and can therefore only be adjusted with approximate accuracy. But with a little patience you can get into the range of 0.05mm, which is usually perfectly adequate, since the printer compensates the height to a certain extent anyway.

I have done the modification with hardened steel springs, which have proven themselves well over the years. Sometimes (after maintenance) only minimal (some hundredths of a mm) readjustment is required .

I used normal countersunk screws with hexagon socket and only reworked the counterbores of the heating bed carefully.

I used this mod on the MK3 and the Mini.

Thanks Benji.  Thats the way I was reading it just wanted to make sure.  The data in my post was after installing silicon tubing and did first auto bed level.  I had before installing mod adjusted for xz skew.

Thanks for the write up and the program for the adjustment.

@karl-herbert you got a link for your Y carriage mod? It looks amazing, no more overtightening those screws on the carriage.

@kormirluk

No link - self construction and printed either with Nylon, ABS or PETG. I would not use PLA:

Bearing_Holder_MK3_Mini_15.10_STL

These can be used on both the MK3 and the Mini. The bearing hole is dimensioned to 15.10, but can be adapted to your own requirements (usually larger).

I would recommend to fix the bearings with heat-resistant silicone glue.This will allow them to adapt to any possible deviations (on the floating bearing side) of the guide rods. A screw clamping is rather unsuitable.

@kormirluk

Most people report that the 15.10 holes are printed too small. If this is the case for you, I can provide you with a step file to modify the holes.

You can get M3 thread inserts e.g. here: M3 thread inserts or in many other printer supplies stores.
