@robee-shepherd
you can add zipped files
I was just pasting in the text in the terminal screenshot :/ I wasn't trying to upload any files at all.
RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
Crap. today is the nozzle after the g29 command directly in the front left corner rammed into the heating bed... Limit switches spit out a warning.
How could this happen? Will this damage the heater bed?
RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
@landvogt1893
The only thing that might have caused this is if your SP/MINDA moved up. If it's higher than it's probe distance, the Z axis will keep lowering until it smashes the nozzle into the bed. And yes, this can damage your printer!
Did you have your steel sheet installed?

RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
No the pinda didn’t move up... I do it without a steelsheet is this the cause?
how can I check the heatbed? Or wich part can be damaged also?
RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
@landvogt1893
Please follow directions! See attached screenshot.
Run the self test to see if you damaged anything. Even if you pass, it doesn't mean you didn't damage anything.

@bapski
You can do this with any similarly constructed print bed. In addition to the silicone mod, modifications with springs and locknuts (nylockmod) are also common.

RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
question, could we use this tool for the adjustments? Its made for the MK3+

RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
@kevman
The i3 series all have the same print bed, so you can use the tool for all of them. Of course, it can also be used for the Mini.

RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
I'm having a hard time getting the silicone pieces to be 100% flat even with the cutting template. does it need to be perfect ?
RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
@kevman
It doesn't need to be perfect, they'll be under enough tension that any small imperfections shouldn't really be an issue. However I did find when cutting my tubing using a blade with one side that is flat and the other beveled seemed to produce the cleanest result. I have an exacto knife kit that comes with big/small handles and about 10 different blade types. The one I found worked best was the one that looks like it might be used as a scraper, about half an inch wide, blade part is completely flat, with the bevel on only one side designed to go in the bigger handle. This is the kit I have. The blade I used was the 3rd one over from the left https://www.amazon.com/Xacto-X5282-Basic-Knife-Set/dp/B00004Z2UB
Id just put the tubing in the jig, set the blade in the slot, then wack the top of the handle with my palm to make a quick cut
RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
@kevman
Probably not. Afair that cutting jig is for a knife, meaning thicker blade. If using a razor blade or similar try to hold everything steady and run the blade across the side of the cutting slot.

RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
Ran out of time to edit my previous post. When using a blade with one side flat and the other beveled, make sure you always use the same orientation of the blade, otherwise you might have some tube spacers a fraction of a mm taller than the others.
When I bought my tubing, I also got about 3ft of it. I just went ahead and cut twice the number of spacers than I needed and then picked the best looking cuts for the ones I eventually used.
RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
thanks everyone, I realize that my tube was not straight at the ends so I did a little manual cut to straighten it out and then proceeded to cut each piece with slight compression.

Is there really a benefit to this with the mini + super-pinda?
I went through the hassle of this mod and saw 0 change. I had a slight skew that needed resolved and was able to do that with a guide on Reddit. The XZ-skew article supposedly has an update coming with a more effective way to resolve a skew other than the two adjustment screws.
RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
Hi,
I have a problem with bed leveling. I use the following G-code for my Prusa mini
RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod
@vizon
This mod is not intended to fix X-Z skew. In fact, the first step of the guide specifically states to check for squareness and to take the proper steps to fix it if it's not.
Is there really a benefit to this with the mini + super-pinda?
There is a limit to what the Mini can compensate for via software. The sensor, whether MINDA, PINDA, SPINDA or whatever, does not make a difference here. Your question is invalid.
Having said that...
Is there really a benefit to this mod?
If you are experiencing issues this mod sets out to fix, then yes, absolutely.

RE: Prusa Mini Silicone Bed Leveling Mod

Hi Vizon, MINDA/(S)PINDA can compensate for uneven surface - but it's still, well, uneven surface. No amount of firmware compensation is going to make surface itself actually flat.
