Nextruder on the MINI!, possible?

Hi all,

I would like to discuss here about the possibility of making a mod to bring the nextruder to the MINI.

I hope the people that mods their extruder could come and bring some light here.

Since a while I’ve thinking to install a direct extruder in my MINI, but now that input shaping is out I am not sure how 3rd party steepers will perform.

So I wonder whether it would be possible to install the nextruder to the MINI. I noticed the extruder it is on the shop now.

What do you think?

it would be nice to have a sort of nextruder in the mini/mini+... personally it would be enough for me even if it simply adjusted the z-offset itself, but I don't know if it's possible while maintaining the bowden

Hi @denisc77!

That could be definitely a good thing. However I am really interested on installing a direct drive extruder, so why not the nextruder itself?

Probably we cannot get all the features but it would be nice to have the easy changing system of the nextruder. Not mentioning loadcell sensor.

Now that I read in a bit more detail the MK4 description I wonder if the new connection of the nextruder won’t allow any attempt of installing it on the MINI. I quote:

The Nextruder with Breakout BoardExtruder is the heart of every 3D printer. And this is a special one. On most 3D printers today, replacing extruder components is a rather complicated process. With the new connector break-out board inside the Nextruder, all of the parts, such as fans, heaters, thermistors, etc., are connected directly there

It would be nice if Prusa releases an update like this... compared to an A1 the mini seems prehistoric...

If there was a Mini Mk2.. it would truly have to be something special to be in the same Ballpark as the A1 and their AMS system..

My Mini has: A SuperPINDA + Bondtech Heatbreak + Bondtech Extruder installed

As it shares the same firmware code base as the MK4 and the XL, I hope that the MINI 2 will have some kind of nextruder (with a loadcell) and the possibility of using the MMU... fingers crossed for the begin of 2024
