Bondtech extruder tension

Hi,

I installed the extruder (not ifs version) after this guide https://support.bondtech.se/Guide/01.+Feeder+Upgrade+Kit/59?lang=en This tells: 2 turns loose for ridgid stuff and 4 for flexibels.

I recently upgaded to ifs version and they said in the video 4 turns for ridgid and did not mention flex stuff.

I usualy used 3 turns for petg, pla blend, asa and 5 for flex.

What are you using? Why this different informations from bondtech?

I have problems printing regular prusa pla and extruder tension makes a huge difference. So I'm interessted in your experience with that...

thanks

RE: Bondtech extruder tension

Could the confusion be because in the video they mean 4 half turns?

🤪 yeah your right. next video they tell 16 1/8 turns .... thx for clarification. Besides of that I'm rearly interested what tension other bondtech users use for different materials.

Just thought I would add two small but very useful tips for this area  1] replace that tiny plastic bit with a proper metal washer 2] mark the tension knob with nail polish to know exactly where your turns are and to be able to repeat its position. 🙂

Might be why I'm having over and under extrusion problems ... which is why I got the upgrade in the first place ... anyone else here that's done the Bondtech and slice copperhead upgrades and what changes did you have to make if any in the configs and maybe do you have configs available to share ...

thanks

not seen the reply ... I use 4 turns and it works for all materials (sometimes tpu needs adjustment, but not always). I switched for 1 1/2 year to revo nozzle and every extrusion problem I had and filament problems are gone. Works like a charme, changing to the right nozzle for every project.
I'm extremely happy with my setup.

RE:

I think the nylon is just fine. I had a metal washer in there now for two months, but eventually, the screw came loose. The nylon washer seems to keep up a bit better with vibrations. ymmv

Marking the know is however a very good idea 😉

By the way, they seem to have changed they guide. Instead of tightening and then loosening the screw, they now suggest the following procedure:

  • Load filament into the extruder until it passes through the drive gears.

  • Take the thumb screw and insert it in the hole of the hinge.

  • When tightening a screw onto a metal threaded insert use at most 0.4Nm torque. Using excessive torque will damage the laser sintered nylon that holds the metal insert in place.

  • Tighten the thumb screw until you feel the filament is gripped.

  • Don't tighten it too much.
The more you tighten the thumbscrew, the less torque and push force will be available to feed filament.

    Don't tighten it too little.
The less you tighten the thumbscrew, the less grip you'll put on the filament causing under-extrusion.
