Squash ball feet ?

My previous printer I3MK3S+ stood on squash ball legs, it worked very well, it made the printer quieter, etc.I'm also thinking about it for the MK4, but my question is how the alpha filmware (Input Shaper and Pressure Advance) will behave with these feet, will the vibration of the printer change?

Best Answer by Walter Layher:

I am using the squash ball mod on my MK4, but I have not yet done a comparison with and without the squash ball feet for printing with input shaping. I will do that as soon as the IS firmware is finished. The printer bounces a bit during IS prints but did not yet manage to leave the enclosure so far. 🙂 The feet I am using are interchangeable between the MK3 and the MK4 and you can simply take them off without tools. So far I have printed mostly without input shaping because the firmware is not very stable yet and for "normal" prints the noise reduction is very much worth using the mod. If you already have those for your MK3, just test them on your MK4. No harm done.

For Pressure Advance it should not matter. Input Shaper on the other side could be impacted. I would just try it out. Print a input shaper test print before modifying the feet and print one afterwards. Then you know for sure what impact it has.

Mk3s MMU2s, Voron 0.1, Voron 2.4

Thanks for the answer, I'm still waiting for the printer, thanks to the 10-week waiting period.I use a squash ball feet of my own design (it's above among the models on the printables page: https://www.printables.com/model/58399-squash-ball-feet).As soon as I have a chance, I will test my printer.

Your version of the squashball feet should also be interchangeable between the MK3 and the MK4. The aluminum extrusions are the same on both. So you can test the ones you already have first.

If such changes are made, I would recommend checking the frequencies for input shaper.

In my Treath I linked Gcode and instructions.

Just try it out. Also contributes better to understand input shaper.
