RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Yep this is exactly what happens. I tested it today so I’m prints where I think I’m running low on filament I will use the USB stick. That works fine.
So when the fiñament runs out, the printer keeps printing on air if sent from Octoprint???
How lame 🙁
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
MK4, where the hardware is an upgrade but the software is a downgrade... holy cow...
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Well, that is why PrusaLink/Connect is more integrated to the firmware of the printer. Octoprint sucks.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Have you actually tried using all three platforms Octoprint, Prusaconnect & Prusalink
I transferred a 15 MB file today using Prusaconnect & it took 38 minutes to transfer from my computer to my MK4
If you have any big G codes it will take hours. Whereas Octoprint I can transfer 100 MB in about 40 seconds when I had it set up on my MK3s+
having a high level physical disability I really love my MK3s+ coupled with Octoprint I could do everything except for removing the Prints from the print bed. It also gave you the flexibility to be creative with your Octolapse & other great utilities that came with it. I really love my MK4 connectivity & user-friendliness had gone backwards
Speaking with support today they will not be looking at direct connection from your computer either only over the other two which data transfer speeds like you're back in 1989.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Why use Prusaconnect if you have PusaLink? OOC legit question.
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
How Octoprint sucks when the only thing you can do with Prusalink is upload and start a print? lol

RE:
Yes, I use both most of the time. PrusaLink since it was in closed beta. Octoprint can fail badly due to RPi and a lot of plugins or causes a microfreezing, which you can spot on quality of perimeters.
Prusa solution has the main advantage of the integration to the firmware. It is more reliable and not so resource hungry.
BTW, if you have still more printers and not only Prusa Printers, I recommend to try https://karmen.tech/en/
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
https://connect.prusa3d.com/ can do much more than that.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Wow, I can't believe you said it sucks.
Octoprint is way more stable and way more productive... here are just a few things:
I can create macros buttons; such as preheat to specific temps and move the toolhead to a specific location in one button.
I can use the terminal to type in a gcode manually
In a browser, I can type the name of the printer name (as a local host) instead of an IP address
I can transfer files in seconds
I can customize the UI or add plug-ins for tons of other useful tools.
I could go on...
I hope Prusa keeps going with it, but Prusa Connect has a long way to go. Until then, OctoPrint for me.
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Not to mention the option to cancel an object or a region on an ongoing print... Or even reprint just an area of a file without having to edit the gcode.
I could go on too.
Seems like an empty sentence a cult addict would drop...
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Hey guys, I read the posts here, but I am still not 100% sure.
Can someone explain to me what are the main problems right now with Mk4 and Octoprint?
Thanks 😀
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Octoprint works in a sense that it you can send jobs, view , monitor and cancel them. The interface on the Mk4 is not aware of Octoprint so it is kind of a split-brain operation. Its not sending certain information back to Octopi, so some functions are not working.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Hey Kevman! Thanks for the response 🙂
Can you still send zero commands and move the axis with Octoprint now?
Will it be solved? or its something that only Prusa can solve and we will have to except for now?
Thanks 😀
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
Where is the usb c port you connected to?
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
It is on the backside of the electronics box
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
As nobody has replied to this yet:
@mr-president: yes, you can move the axes on the MK4 with OctoPrint. I don't know what you mean by zero commands? Do you mean homing? Yes, that is possible.
@petert: the usb-c port on the MK4 is at the back of the electronics box above the ethernet port
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
I'm not sure whether it is a Prusa issue or Octoprint issue. But what I do know is that it seems to work ok aside from the issues mentioned. The two glaring problems I faced are no detection of Filament runout and it does not turn off my printer automatically when it is idle after a print job completion.

Can you elaborate on this "feature"?
....and it does not turn off my printer automatically when it is idle after a print job completion.
RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
I have a smart switch for the power of my Prusa and using an Octoprint Plugin ( https://github.com/jneilliii/OctoPrint-TPLinkSmartplug) , it can detect when the printer completes a job and after and idle timeout period it will turn off the printer automatically from the smart switch. This function is broken as the MK4 does not report back the idle state the same way the Mk3 does.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint
OIC
May be talking to the plugin developer for a "special case" for the MK4 detection then?
