I have 5 Prusas including the new MK4 , all using Octoprint...I really hate to say this , but if they can't  / won't resolve the issues,  its going to be a deal breaker for me in the future.  It was working on the MK3 and even the mini, why remove such functionality on the MK4? And at the cost of the XL and not having this functionality, I'm just waiting to see what larger form factor Bambu will come out with and will probably consider that...

My thoughts exactly.

They're loosing the race at fast pace...

They are not going to fix it......   in github,  there are some since 2020 with the Mini board.

It´s a shame.   The Mk4 is the only printer I cant use with octoprint  due to "runout sensor"  not working if I run out filament..........  all becouse Prusa dont want to send the Marlin parameters when runout happens.........  It´s not a feature,  it´s  the lack of implementation.

Im not going to purchase more mk4 since this situation continues,  as well as other people in github claiming for the same.

Same again. In a farm environ, the sensor must work... And their Prusa link connect thing is quite useless as is right now.

Prusa advertises the MK4 has  "all the best features of the popular MK3"

Product description for the MK3S+ lists as one of the 10 top features
"Ongoing development and regular updates ensure that our machines are packed with useful features, such as ........   Octoprint support "

Disappointed that the absolute basic communication for the filament sensor and pausing a print is not available...

Finally i have cancelled my day-1-order for a MK4-kit only hours before expected execution, also because a lack of Octoprint support.

The way I figured it, get the mk4 and learn its strengths and weaknesses while the finer points are addressed. I miss octoprint ( I am a monthly donor to the project (albeit a small donation) and will go back to it when possible. In the meantime I love the ability to change a nozzle, change the print sheet, press start and go have a coffee.  No regrets

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint

This is not a good take, do not reward companies that don't deliver what they promise and don't buy a product based on the promises of future features. The MK4 was supposed to be a printer with input shaping, pressure advance, auto bed levelling and all of the MK3 features.  Only one of those things is actually true, a few months after release.  Any other company people would be screaming false advertising because it actually is.  A few of those things I can maybe understand giving them a pass because while it was not obvious from the product page that input shaping was not a thing yet, if you dug deeper they'd have resources saying so.  This is not the case with Octoprint support, there was no way to know until you had your printer with you.  That is not ok.  The MK4 might be a good printer with some good features, but you are paying for all of the advertised features, not just a small subset of them.

Wow a bit amazed they still haven't left day 1 for Mk4 kit shipping....

Thanks a lot @mikolaszuza!  for trying to get this problems to Joseph  and Dev Team.

I am very disappointed in the way Joseph has answered. 1 second later he changed to "it looks like some people are interested in TPU".

The problem with octorprint is NOT SMALL. A lot of people depend on octoprint to use their machines.

We have already heard several times that there are other priorities ahead, like making the NETWORK go faster (since 2 years you have it pending on the MINI which happens to use the same WIFI module as the MK4 and which CASUALLY has a speed of 128.000 baud....... i.e. you are passing the WIFI network through the COM. Until you stop doing that and write directly to the SD card / pendrive, you will continue with the same 10-20 kbps !!!!!

PLEASE, FIX OCTOPRINT. Filament Sensor is the most important.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint

I really love my MK3S+ in conjunction with Octoprint, and I planned on purchasing an MK4 until I learned Octoprint was not supported.  I want to stress this is a real deal-breaker for me.   I did see a posting that someone modified the MK4 firmware source for Octoprint compatibility.  Has anyone had experience with this?
By supporting Octoprint you would be supporting all the third party Octoprint plugins and features making the MK4 platform a powerful unlimited platform.  This is an obvious no-brainer in my opinion.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint

I think It´s not tested cause:

1º - you have a warning stating that if you change the jumper to flash a non-prusa firmware, it will void your warranty.

2º - Users who wanted to test it, could not because there is no way to flash the firmware. They have asked Prusa about it, and I think they are still waiting for an answer.

Sorry if the information is not correct, I'm telling you from memory of the conversations I remember ....

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint

People often make it sound that OctoPrint is "not supported at all" by the MK4. That is not the case, just a few functions like the filament runout and the status display on the printer for print jobs started via OctoPrint do not work. I also have an MK3S+ and I don't think that the difference in functionality between the two in regard to using OctoPrint is a really big deal. During the last Prusa Podcast this week they mentioned that OctoPrint support for the MK4 firmware is on their To-Do list. I would not hold my breath, but it is not "use PrusaLink or else" either ... 🙂

RE:

- My main concern is that they have had the filament sensor problem since the MINI was released. It has been going on for MORE THAN 2 YEARS.
- I think that the change of layer color is also affected, and the change of filament (m600).

I have read several Mini users really happy that the same problem exists in the mk4, to see if they are heeded once....

On the mk3s , the filament sensor works perfectly in Octoprint, and doesn't leave you stranded if you run out of filament.

In my particular case, I don't care if the current print line is reflected on the screen or not, I always check it with my mobile / PC.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint

This is not accurate, first of all the filament runout sensor IS a big deal.  Second, not being to manage the print from the printer at all is ANOTHER big deal.  Third, as the printer doesn't acknowledge it is printing and you have finished a print earlier, it can timeout and turn off heating, which will ruin your print (ask me how I know).   The printer doesn't send responses back to Octoprint so info is extremely limited too.

So no, that's not accurate and above all, I think this NEEDS to be stressed, they advertised having all the same features as the MK3 which itself advertises Octoprint! There is no excuse, people are not asking for some random feature not implemented.

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint

My understanding for lack of support for Octoprint is as follows:
1.- Octoprint really requires bi-directional  communications for full functionality .

2.- Printer firmware must be able to communicate many status parameters, temperature, print head positioning, filament run out status, etc.

3. - Front panel button needs to interact with Octoprint for pausing, restarting print jobs

Just to name a few things

3. -

RE: Prusa MK4 & Octoprint

From what I have read the difference is substantial.  The MK3S+ allows Octoprint to query printer firmware and get temps, positioning info etc. and therefore code in octoprint can act accordingly. This is a big deal.  You may be able to just upload a job to the MK4 via octoprint but that is only a fraction of a percent of what octoprint can do,

On the color changes during a print: I have printed several models with color changes created in PrusaSlicer via OctoPrint on my MK4. Worked every time so far.

How do restart after color change from the printer or through octoprint?

RE:

It works the same as on the MK3S+. The printer moves the head to the side and beeps, the display shows the message to change filament the same as if printing from the USB flash drive. You change the filament and answer the prompts on the printer display and the printer continues with the new color. No problem with OctoPrint.
This works because the filament change is part of the gcode and all is part of the normal printing process.
A filament runout happens at random and is not part of the gcode so there are problems with OctoPrint.
