Warning when chaning filament or quality setting

Hello,

I've just downloaded a model from this website and wanted to print it. (First time to print a downloaded model.) The model has PETG and 0.20 mm quality preset. I have PLA loaded and would like to change the settings to PLA and 0.15 mm. This wasn't a problem with my own models but this one generates a warning with confusing messages.

Change preset: unsaved changes

The preset (...) has the following unsaved changes: (...)

Well, I don't know? It wasn't me. What should I do?

  • Transfer: Sounds like it would overwrite the presets. Not intended, I want to keep them as they are.
  • Discard: Sounds like something will get lost here. Is that important?
  • Save: Another dialog appears that looks like I would create a new preset. What for?
  • Cancel: I cannot change the intended setting.

Please advise. The software isn't being helpful today.

RE: Warning when changing filament or quality setting

I think I've figured it out. Looks like the provided .3mf file contains the selection of a known preset, but also additional modifications to it. After reviewing all those modified settings (the ones with the orange unlock icon; also in the expert mode I don't use) I came to the conclusion that none of them were relevant for me. Discarding them seems like the correct way to handle it. I believe that the provided .3mf file shouldn't come with such custom settings in the first place. They may be relevant to the author but to nobody else.

.3mf files include the settings used by the designer.  Usually this doesn't matter but if (s)he has calculated special adjustments it saves the downloader a considerable amount of fiddling.  You can reload any other preset over the top if you wish but the slicer will warn you that you are discarding details.

Cheerio,

One thing I like about Cura is that it gives the option, when opening a .3mf file, to read it in as a project, including settings, or just read in the objects, using existing settings.
