Variable Layer, Mouse Wheel

Using Windows Slicer 2.40, just discovered variable layer feature.

I have a large print that only requires variable layer in a small area.  Screen indicates that the mouse wheel allows you to increase or decrease the edit area, but all I get with the mouse wheel is zoom in/out.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm not able to check this out (I'm at work), but I recall it works like this.   With the mouse cursor hovering over the layer slidebar where you want the variable height to be applied, the height setting will change when you roll the mouse wheel forward or backwards. In previous versions you had to drag the cursor to change these settings.

I find that there are limits to any benefit you get when you attempt too small an increment on the layers, but I go from 0.2mm to 0.1mm pretty frequently with my 0.4mm nozzle and it works pretty good. There are recommendations on the forums for minimum layer heights vs nozzle diameter.  I think print speed is also a factor to consider, but again there are topics discussing print print speed and layer height.  You didn't say, but your mouse wheel has to be enabled for this to work.  I somehow turned mine off once and thought my mouse was broke.

Good luck.

Thank you.  I now see what it does.  It does not do what I wanted, but now that I know that, I can go on to other things.

I find that I have to edit my earlier reply.  In order to enable variable height you have to select the function from the tool bar, then you click hold to make the adjustments. Left reduced height, rights increases height.
