Variable layer height controlled by print profile

Hi,

I know how to activate and adjust the variable layer height feature but is there a way to simply activate it "permanently" via slicing Profile?

Background:

I am slicing very much small individual parts one after each other and it is a exhausting job to always click through the variable layer height implementation process. It would help a lot if it would just be an option (with fine adjustments) to activate in the slicing Profile like Arachne or similar stuff.

Is that planned? Or did I miss something

Thanks for support folks 🙂

Simple answer is no.  At the moment that is not possible.  I don't recall seeing it as a feature request on the Prusa Slicer github either.

Might already have been requested though as there are over 4000 open issues at the moment.  https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/

Hm,

taking into account the cura slicer concept (where the variable layer height feature is activated via profile)

May I raise the constructive question why it has been implemented like it is and where the difficulty would be to activate it via profile?

This is a user to user forum, so no one here will be likely able to answer your question.  The github site I linked is the official place to report issues and raise feature requests.  You might get an answer there as to "why" but given how busy they are the chances are slim.  Just because Cura does things one way that does not translate to other slicers doing them the same way.
Best to just raise it as a request and then hope it gets implemented.  It may already be on the plan, there's zero way to know.

As for making the PS version a setting, well I personally would never use it.  The current functionality is lacking.  It needs some limits on step size for a start (which I have seen mentioned on github).  When layers can be really stupid heights like 0.123456 high that isn't reachable by a printer.  If you were going to make an Automated version that was either on/off from a setting you would at minimum need a way to easily set the minimum and maximum height used (currently those are taken from your Printer profiles max/min layers heights) and a layer step value that can be set to what its possible for your printer to do.
