Using PrusaSlicer with Ultimaker S3

I started printing with Cura & an Ultimaker S3

Then I found PrusaSlicer and a Prusa MK3S, and I like the PrusaSlicer software so much more!!!  Thank you everyone at Prusa Research!

The environment with Cura assumes I will sit in a chair by the printer and arrange my objects on a buildplate using a PC I don't own while the printer sits idle.  This is suboptimal.

I like being able to do my plate-setting in PrusaSlicer and having a gcode file ready to run.  And I found out that the S3 can print gcode files off of a usb port recently.  ....sooooo....

How well is the S3 supported by the PrusaSlicer software these days?  I can't see where to add a non-prusa-brand printer to PrusaSlicer so I would assume not well, but I have to ask, because I like the Prusa interface so much better than Cura!

I know I can generate a gcode file in cura as well.  I've done it, and it works.  But I just thought if I could stop using Cura altogether and use just one slicer for both printers, I'd like to.

Ultimaker 2 is available in the configuration dropdown menu, under configuration wizard, other vendors

Maybe you could revise that, to the S3 dimensions

I'd expect there to be community made profiles for it. Just stopping by to note that this is a Prusa Connect & Link section of the forum and you might get better answers in the PrusaSlicer section. People can set new topic reminders per section here, so I just got an email while guys looking over PrusaSlicer (if there are any) did not get any heads up.

RE:

There has been some chatter about this over on the Ultimaker forum, but I don't remember any solutions.

I would like to see this too, since my other printer is an Ultimaker S5, which is the big brother to the S3.

I use both PS and Cura for the Prusa printer, and I would like to do the same with the Ultimaker, as both PS and Cura have their strong points and it would be nice to have the choice.

The Ultimaker S series uses a flavor of gcode known as 'griffin', which is indeed somewhat different from the 'marlin' flavor used on the Prusa and many other Reprap type machines.  The last I checked, PS did not have a built-in griffin flavor code generator.

There's been chatter (again, no conclusions that I remember) that 1. The Ultimaker S series can indeed print using marlin gcode (true? false? none of the above?), and 2. The griffin gcode is actually internally converted to marlin before being fed to the controller board in the S series printers (true? false? none of the above?).  I do not know how much of this is accurate or not.

Adding to the confusion is the (mistaken) belief that the S series printers require the proprietary .ufp files in lieu of .gcode files.  I know for a fact that the Ultimaker S5 will indeed devour and enjoy a properly formatted griffin flavor .gcode file with no .ufp wrapper if it is given via a thumb drive on the front panel.

RE: Using PrusaSlicer with Ultimaker S3

Hi everyone

I hope all is well with you all!

I have heard that the Prusa slicer is excellent and in many ways better than the Cura. I've been looking for a long time to use the Prusa Slicer with the Ultimaker S3 printer safely and that's how I found this forum.

As there hasn't been much interaction on this forum for a while on the subject, I was wondering if anyone has made any progress in getting the Prusa Slicer working on the Ultimaker S3 printer.

So, friends, I look forward to the good news!

Somebody???

Late to the party, but I added a compatible Ultimaker S3/S5/S7 profile for PrusaSlicer
