Thickneing holes

I often have holes in parts that I need to post tap after printing.  I need the walls of holes like these, or other structurally significant holes to have thicker walls (more perimeters) than the rest of the part.  It would be great to have an option to select such a hole in Prusa Slicer and adjust the perimeters.

If anyone knows a method or trick for that, please let me know.

Otherwise I'm left with either making the whole part's perimeter count being high or adding modifiers at the holes.  This is tedious.  But worse that the tedium, is aligning the modifier with the part.  take a simple case of a vertical hole.  If I make a cylindrical modifier, and I don't get it perfectly centered with the hole, I get non-concentric behavior of the resulting perimeters.  That is, some of the perimeters are C shaped not round as they get off axis with the hole.

Is there a way to get a cylindrical modifier aligned perfectly with a hole's centerline?

I model my own parts in F360 FWIW.  When searching I saw someone suggest creating modifiers externally, but I get how that's done exactly, if that's the solution.

Yeah that’s one way. You model the modifiers in position. Don’t merge the parts and when imported into PS you split to PARTS. Not object. When split to parts the relative positions are maintained. You can then select the modifier parts and convert their type to modifier. Then assign the different settings. Remember you can copy and paste settings from one modifier to another which makes it slightly less tedious.

Another way is to remember that the slicer will create perimeters around any void in the model (as long as the void is bigger than the closing radius, which can be made smaller in print settings).  By adding strategic hollows where you want perimeters you can control where PS will put them. So you can model your hole and further out from it a cylinder void that doesn’t reach the top or bottom.

First method won't work by importing both models (and not merging), if I understand what you meant.  I tried that first.  Failed because PS moves the second object  to the center of the bed.  But I figured out that if I add the modeled modifier via the add modifier "load" menu item, then it placed it correctly on the original part.

Not following the second method.  I don't want any voids inside the part.  Sounds like I'd have some that way

Either way, still a PITA vs being to select a hole and say "thicken".  Wish it would do that.

RE:

Not sure what the terminology in Fusion is but in Blender I can select several non merged parts and export as stl.  They will save as a single stl but be made up of parts.  Then when the single stl is loaded into PS I can select it and use the split to PARST option.  That then allows me to select any of the constituent parts and change them to type Modifier.  How you would achieve a similar output from Fusion I dont know as I dont use it.

When I say void, I mean a very small/thin gap.  Like 0.01 or similar in size.  Experiment with the sizing and positioning.  Change Print Settings>Advanced>Slice Gap Closing Radius to something very small like 0.005.  That way the slicer wont fill it in when slicing but the perimeters created will be so close you wont actually notice any difference.

I've tried to attach an example of a project with a simple cube with hole and void inside to demonstrate.  I just hope the forum move is allowing attachments now as they were broken recently.

You can right click the project in the project-tree in fusion360 and select "save as mesh". It will save all visible components and bodies into one m3f or stl.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
Find out why this is pinned in the general section!

Had my hopes up for a sec.  But in this case the bodies are effectively joined before writing to the stl so prusaslicer sees it as one solid body.  results in the hole being filled and the extra body is not recognized at all, same solid as the original body in the hole area.

But, and maybe this is what you meant, if I create say, 15 cylinders, and make only those visible, I can export those all as one stl which is handy and I don't' have to make a phantom connector making them one body.  And these modifier bodies (as one) can be used via modifier, load option.

Appreciate that tip.
