All the results are tutorials to how to do it in Blender.
So substitute your CAD of choice in the search.
My CAD of choice does not have this ability.
Or, in this case, change your CAD of choice .
Prusa slicer already have function to add text to your prints that can follow the curvature of part
And many designers wish it did not. It's practically an invitation to steal any design and rebadge it as your own. In any case this sort of thing is much better done in the original design file - in the CAD of choice.
Why not add at least few pre-programmed textures than?
Frankly, it would be better to delete all these CADish functions and concentrate on maintaining an excellent slicer whilst leaving the design work to - the CAD of choice.
Cheerio,
RE: Texture Feature
You make good point.
It never occurred to me to steal someones work.
What free CAD of choice would you recommend than?
Preferably one that has text and texturing, and multi part design.
I just started with Oneshape, so it want be much problem for me to change program.
I do practically everything in OpenSCAD
Preferably one that has text and texturing, and multi part design.
Yes, all those, it doesn't suit everyone though - Blender is probably the opposite extreme but with a steep initial learning curve.
Cheerio,
RE: Texture Feature
Thank you.
I'll install and try it out. Hope that there are some tutorials on YT.
Just one question.
Is it still alive?
I see that the latest news is from 18th December 2022
And why the latest version for Windows is from almost 3 years ago (OpenSCAD 2021.01) while Mac has version from 3 days ago (OpenSCAD-2023.09.25)
It's under slightly erratic development. For now stick with the 2021 stable versions, the latest builds are not well enough documented for a beginner but it looks like another stable release is not too far away and documentation will catch up.
You will find the OpenSCAD documentation Wiki contains a decent starting tutorial - then start looking at other's files on the web, for example I posted a script in answer to a query here just a few days ago - but don't try to understand it just yet:
Cheerio,
RE: Texture Feature
How do I draw in that thing?
How do I do the sketch?
There are no tools in there!
Only a text field!!!
D:
How do I draw in that thing?
You don't, you write a script.
The help tab includes a link to the documentation.
Cheerio,
RE: Texture Feature
I have a problem.
After few tutorials I managed to successfully import an STL in to OpenSCAD.
But I can not modify it!
First photo is when I press F5
Second when F6
And third when I opened saved file in Prusa slicer
Fourth one is source stl opened in Prusa slicer
Fifth is opened in another CAD program. (I marks parts it recognizes as problematic but still imports a whole file)
Imported file does not render and does not save to stl.
On top of that some of STLs that I created in other CAD programs do not Import to OpenSCAD at all, while being perfectly fine in Prusa slicer.
I tried to find solution in the web but what I found is that importing STLs to OpenSCAD is almost impossible.
You have to spend hours on each file in blender to "repair" it so it will be accepted by Open SCAD.
But the point of using CAD is to not use Blender especially for technical parts.
So I'll modify my question from 5 days ago:
Do you know any free CADlike program that has no problem with importing files and has texturing?
It's still OpenSCAD - 'though it does insist the imported files are valid. But if you want to modify sculpts you are better off with Blender.

RE: Texture Feature
Can I recommend you use Autodesk Netfabb for adding mesh based texturing
It has a free version for all hobby users
here is how to get the free version:
here is how to apply the texture:
Hope it does what you are looking for.
RE: Texture Feature
Thats not how bump maps work, I think, they're only visual and can't be exported/printed. And I believe effective and simple displacement map features are not that common. This would be great to have in the slicer.
