Support Rectilinear Grid Pattern Problem
When selecting Grid Style for Support and the Rectilinear Pattern, the lines of intermediate layers are placed in 90° to the selected Pattern Angle. This is OK for the intermediate layers, as they sit at 90° on the -dense- first layer lines. Also is good for the Top Interface Layer(s), that has its lines to the Pattern Angle direction, thus 90° on the intermediate layers.
But when selecting Rectilinear Grid for the Pattern, the first intermediate layer lines are placed in the same direction of the first layer (the Pattern Angle). This is not the best solution, but since the first layer is somehow dense, the problem is minor. The 2nd intermediate layer lines are at 90° (to the Pattern Angle), the 3d at 0°, 4th at 90°, etc. The Top Interface Layer(s) lines are always at Pattern Angle. So if the intermediate layers are even (2,4 ...), their lines are at 90° to the top intermediate, no problem. But if the intermediate layers are odd (1,3 ...), their lines are in 0° to the last intermediate. In that case, many of theme are printed 'on the air' since the last intermediate layer it is not dense (so they hang down destroying their support task).
I can't find any solution for this, except ... not using this Pattern. The perfect solution should be to set the first intermediate layer at 90° to the first layer, and the Top Interface Layer(s) to 90° to the last interface layer.
Is it possible to include this change to a next version of Prusa Slicer?
RE: Support Rectilinear Grid Pattern Problem
I've experienced this too - and simply never use the pattern any more. I second the request for a change.
