Suggestion: Paint on Fuzzy Skin?

Hi all,

I have a been playing around with the fuzzy skin to add a texture to my prints and make them look less "3D printy". At the moment the fuzzy skin only allows for all surfaces or external surfaces. The problem is that, in my instance, neither work how I would like it to.

Attached is a photo for the case I am printing and it has external surfaces selected in the options. As the image shows it is also adding it to the internal supports "external" faces as well (3), I only want it on the surface (1). That said, the (3) surfaces aren't that big of an issue (other than adding a bit more  print time) but surface (2) is the more important one. It is the lip for the case so I really need it to be smooth and dimensionally accurate.

I got to thinking, we have the "paint on supports", would it be an idea to have a "paint on feature" option where things like Fuzzy Skin, supports and/or MMU colouring? Thinking that it would add in the model list a modifier that would let you select the additional settings to those faces.

Just a thought not sure what others would think?

Suggestion has already been made on GitHub which is the proper place for feature requests. Go add your support to it if you want it.

I'm guessing from the silence, that you didn't know you could already correct these problems, and that you didn't understand the thread I sent you to.

Just do like @neophyl said.

No the delay was unfortunately because I had some family things I needed to deal with, so my hobby had to take a back seat behind that and work for most of the month. My sincere apologies I didn't reply but life happened.

I have been able to use the thread you provided to figure out making a custom modifier so that the skin is only where it needs to be so thank you for the suggestion.

I understand, family first for sure. That pesky work thing pops its ugly head up around here too, although I have to admit in my case it's a love hate relationship.

I'm glad you were able to get some help from the information, and thanks for getting back.

Regards

RE: Suggestion: Paint on Fuzzy Skin?

I've been reading this and the other post, thanks for the work around. It works.
I'm printing a puzzle ( https://www.printables.com/model/370680-print-in-place-twisty-puzzle-box-difficult)
Simply put it is a tube with inner parts with outer walls. And that is where I saw this problem.
Problem is, it now turned a 8.5 hr print into a 10.5 hr print. Seems weird.

I hope Prusa will look at this suggestion. I will search for the issue in GitHub.
