Stop on layer xxx,...

Hello,

one question: Is there a way to stop printing on exakt line by prusaslicer? For example I have a print-job with 500 layers over all and I only want to print layer 1 to 250. printing from base to layer 250 and then stop printjob.

Greatings, thk_ms

In PrusaSlicer it is possible to insert g-code at a specific layer for change color, pause or custom g-code. This is done in the preview at the layer scale to the right of the preview.
This option could be used to end the print.

Another option is to cut the print in two and only print the lower part, I use this to make smaller test prints without printing the complete model.

Hello,

thank you for answering. And I found the cut-function - great! One more Question: If I cut a model in the Z-axis is there a function to print the upper part at there original layer. Like printing in the air or printing on the top of lower part (for example with an other material)?

Thank you, thk_ms

The cut function creates two objects and objects will always drop to the bed in the slicer.

But there is no need to do any cutting to change from one filament to another. You can simply insert a filament change at the layer you want and when the printer gets to that layer, it will beep and prompt you to do the filament change. The way to insert a filament change is from the slice preview. On the right column, move the slider to the layer you want and click on the plus sign.

I get the impression what your looking for is "Pause" or an M600 color change, not Stop.

It is not possible to start a print in mid-air.

As @sylviatrilling suggest a simple color change in the same material can be done, inserting a color change g-code in the preview.

To do a material change is more difficult as it depends on the material. G-codes can be inserted to match the new material (temperature etc.)  or the printer profile can be changed to support two virtual extruders, each with different materials.
More information can be found in threads in the forum for virtual extruders as this is a more complicated setup.
