Slicing (raised) text

Can anyone shed light on the differences I'm getting between PrusaSlicer and S3D? As the attachment shows, the lowercase "e" is essentially missing in the PrusaSlicer version, while it comes out OK in S3D, using the same STL file. I've played around with all of the print settings that seem likely and completely redone the STL in another piece of software. PrusaSlicer just doesn't seem to like to render "e"s. Just a quirk of the program, or something I can fix?  Thanks, Jim

RE: Slicing (raised) text

if you look in advanced mode,
under 'Print Settings>Advanced'

the extrusion width for external perimeters is set to 0.45mm

if the crossbar on the 'e' is less than 0.45mm it will not print, just like the eoots od the 'p' letters didn't show in either S3D or Prusa Slicer

so either make the letters larger, or
make the extrusion width smaller, or
choose a Font with a thicker line width, or
use a smaller nozzle!

or, a clumsy way is to use XY size compensation which is an expert option... but be aware that this will change the whole model size a little bit too

@joantabb

Thanks Joan! I'll be trying one of more of your suggestions. Indeed, lowering the extrusion width did the trick, a larger font would seem to be the best solution.

Cheers Jim, It's good to get an understanding of what happens under the bonnet...

chances are that you previously had no knowledge og the existance of the extrusion width table.

now that you are aware of it, you might be ale to see options, for example of using wider extrusion widths to get stronger vase mode prints...

I regularly use 0.8mm extrusion width with a 0.4mm nozzle, for vase mode, and have used up to 1.2mm, but I think that nozzle was a bit worn, so that width may not work with a new 0.4 nozzle

Also, check for thin walls detection.

@joantabb

Thanks Joan, a slightly bigger text and reducing the external perimeter to 0.3 worked a treat.
