Slicer won't start - Hangs on "Preparing Settings Tabs"

My PC just locked up, forcing me to reboot...

Everything is (was) fine until I lanched PrusaSlicer (2.3.0) and when it gets to "Preparing Settings Tabs...." it freezes... If I click on the window, it gives me an option to Close or Wait...

Its always started before with no issue.. Any ideas?

Edit: After waiting 2-3 mins it opened.. But if I close it and open again, I get the same problem.. Slicer used to start in a matter of seconds.. Now its taking minutes... I have also gone back and verified the Alpha/Beta and RC versions I have and they are the same too.. So I assume something has gone wrong in my settings.

One way to check would be to make a backup copy of your profiles (check the location from Help>Show Configuration Folder when you do get PS open).

The shut it down, delete the folders and go through the wizard adding a single printer/filament etc.  The see if it opens up full speed again.  If it does then yes, you have something amiss in your profiles.  If it still takes several seconds then the issue is not with PS.

As PS checks various drive availabilities etc when it opens its quite possible that your windows crash has caused something else to respond slowly, which in turn will slow down the opening of PS.

Good call. I moved the folder and the startup was the same.. After 5 mins I got the wizzard asking to configure the printer, so I know its not my config

The fact that it does  the same with the Beta, Alpha and RC versions means that its not a bug either.  So it must be something local to me.

I was interested by your comments about how it could depend on my drives.. I have had problems with my mount points before after a reboot.. But my FlashAir, Octopus and NAS links are fine.

So I did another reboot, and this time took advantage of a Windows update that had been postpone.. And now its working fine again with a startup of PS taking a few seconds at worst...

This is an unexplaned issue and I guess we will never know how or why this happened.

I'm experiencing the same behavior.  It appears that it was reported on Github 19 days ago: Hangs when opening on Windows 10 20H2 · Issue #6050 · prusa3d/PrusaSlicer · GitHub

I am using a Corsair K70 keyboard.  Unfortunately, I don't have another keyboard I can use to test.

Stab in dark. The first release of 2.3 final was replaced next day with a installer version. Maybe worth redoing download and compare?

This is weird.  Yesterday, I rebooted several times to try to fix the issue.  This morning I turn on my system and can't reproduce the issue.  Spooky.

This Is weird as I was having this problem too, and have a corsair keyboard too (K95RGB)

RE: Slicer won't start - Hangs on "Preparing Settings Tabs" - Solved(?)

I was also having the same problem with the slicer stops on startup at "Preparing Settings Tabs". Turns out I'm also using a Corsair keyboard (K63).

So... I unplugged the keyboard from the pc, and voila, Prusa Slicer starts up. Then I just plug it back in again.

My Slicer sometimes wont start, but mostly just a real long time, several minutes. I have a Corsair Strafe keyboard

Also if you have a bios/MS switch on the keyboard switching it to BIOS lets the slicer start.

This problem still exists, i am using Corsair K100. Unplugging it did nothing.

But unplugging my Corsair Glaive mouse launched PrusaSlicer immediately LOL

I guess Prusa is really beefing with Corsair.

Could it be the Corsair iCue software running in the background causing this issue?

How absolutely odd... I experienced the same thing with a Corsair K70 keyboard.

RE: Slicer won't start - Hangs on "Preparing Settings Tabs"

Thank you for this thread everyone, otherwise I would not have thought to unplug the USB reciever for my Corsair K83 keyboard, to narrow down the problem with both PrusaSlicer, and another popular slicer based on it, taking minutes to startup.

I lauched the slicer, after 30 seconds it still had not loaded (was still in the splash screen saying "Preparing Settings Tabs" ) so I unplugged my K83 reciever, and it instantly started! I tried several more launches of both slicers, and they both open nearly instantly now. I just need to determine if it is the Corsair iCue software now, or what. I can't get it to slow down again yet to test.

I'll try and remember to update this post if I can narrow this down further, but there is definitely an issue with PrusaSlicer and at least some Corsair keyboards, or Corsair iCue software causing significant PrusaSlicer startup delays.

If anyone is curious about the details for comparison:

13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900HX, Installed RAM 64.0 GB  DDR5, Windows 11 Home 22H2 Build 22621.2428. Gen4 Pci-e NVME SSD (7000mb/s read and 6,500 write).

PrusaSlicer-2.6.1+win64-202309060711

Corsair iCUE 5.7.106, K83 Wireless USB (will try bluetooth as well and report back)

I'm running iCue but don't have a wireless keyboard,  and I don't have any startup issues.  Windows 10 machine.  So it probably isn't iCue on its own.

I don't thinks it is Icue either as with or without it installed I get hangs when my K95 RGB keyboard is plugged in. I can however switch it over to BIOS/Legacy mode or unplug it al together and prusia slicer starts right up.

RE:

After further testing, I agree that iCue running doesn't seem to matter. The extremely long startup time of Prusaslicer happens even if iCue isn't running, but the second I pull the Corsair usb reciever for my K83, it starts instantly. I don't really mind reaching over to unplug it and reseat it every time I start Prusaslicer since I sit within reach, but I'm still hoping for an eventual fix. Thanks again for the feedback, this thread has saved me so much time while staring at the splash screen.
